Frequent colds

For the last 4-5 months I seem to come down with a cold when I'm due on. First time was when we came back from holiday in November so I just put it down to air conditioning on the plane/being a little run down. Second time was at Xmas.....again could have been a little stressed as I'd been on jury service and needed Xmas stuff sorting early. I was ill again last month and have now got another cold but this current one could be due to being a little run down after a hectic weekend at the Expo.

I know I'm not at my healthiest weight and do find I suffer from illness more when I am. I have also noticed that my periods are getting much heavier (age?? LOL)

Anyone else have similar issues?

Kitty I'm the same as you, although I put mine down to not clean eating and lack of vitamins tbh... There have been a high numer of coughs/colds/flu's/general lurgy around this winter.

My periods get heavier and heavier as I get older which is a scary prospect seeing as I'm only 28 now! I guess with the latter, if you're worried see a doc.

Maybe your adrenals are stressed and you need a break from cardio and weights for a week or so !!!

Or you could try Glutamine 20g a day, Vit c post workout and a decent multi vit to run in conjunction with your diet

    This may help

I already use Animal Pak but good idea about glutamine. I've had a complete rest this week. So have you no suggestions about the co-incidence with my periods then?

Echinacea is not effective once the cold is in situ but yes, another good idea, thank you.

True.... Day nurse is not bad (although it makes your wee bright yellow!) also Contac for decongesting.

Colds on occasion are just our systems way of re-booting (at least that's what I tell myself!)

Does anyone remember Askit?! Those little sachets were awesome.

Les, I've not used glutamine regularly for 3 years and not been bothered with frequent colds until the last 5 months or so! I've google it and it seems a lot of women go through this every month!!!!!

Hi Kitty, I rarely get colds but when I do get them they are very bad...phew....I dunno if this has helped in truth, but I started having a tspn of Manuka honey in the mornings, and my colds have not been as bad at all since then...also recently started taking about 30g of glutamine inthe day, 3x10g.........I honestly dunno if it is that that is helping or just a strange coincidence....errm...worth a go?...I dunno...as for the periods, cant' help with that one......I can't see how they are related to colds and stuff, except maybe that the period makes us feel run down and so we are susceptible to catching stuff around that time?.....not much help I know...but wanted to throw my pennyworth in...hope you don't mind...

Not knocking your suggestion Les, it was suggested earlier by Danny and was something I'd not considered. I do know you're a fan .

Flick I'm definitely more than run down, the colours in my tissue are fact!!

NG, when I googled it they do say that there is a point in your cycle when you're more susceptible to catching colds. I also relate it to my weight, any health issues I've had have always occured when I've been at the top end of my weight and this dates to before I started competing!

Kitty, I generally feel a bit ill pre-menstrualy, it doesnt usually develop into anything full blown. I guess changes in hormone levels and what have you mean that 'vitality' is low.
