Front Squat Spotting

I want to do a 1 rep max on front squat next week but I dont know what would be the best way of spotting it. I do front squats with clean grip on a platform so I just drop the bar when done.

    White:

You should always squat in a power rack with safety pins, even when you use a spotter.

Yeah, I guess I should. Its just that when I started front squatting I always powercleaned the weight while on platform so I'm just too used to doing everything on the platform.

So, if I'm in the rack, how should the spotter spot me as the bar is resting on my shoulders, not my back?

If you want to prove to yourself how much you can lift, lift it...if you can't lift it it will hit the pins in the rack. I don't see where a spotter comes into it!

Yeah, I could do that, but for the future - if I'm doing doubles or triples and I cant finish 2nd/3rd rep it would be nice to be able to complete with spotter's help. Why do powerlifters spot each other when training in squat cages?

for the reasons you outlined....but in the context of the first post, ie' a one rep max, they don't. But I'd say the best way would be a guy on each end, or failing that, spotting like a wide curl either from in front or behind, whichever feels safest to you.

if you cannot get a person either end of the bar then get a strong experienced spotter to stand behind like the back squat spot but if you start to fail they can assist by getting the forearms under the bar slightly to assist you up. tell them not to rush in and yank the bar upwards as it just rolls into your windpipe and crushes you, i speak here from experience

no sorry i disagree guy spotting on back squat fine but i found best way on fronts is dont spot if you have a solid platform and you trust your form if you cant do it drop it foward on to the solid platform power rack pins personally i feel they get in the way. you guys prob disagree but thats how ive trained for years (if one spotter grabs it and the other dont big back injuries

When squatting (front or back) in the power rack, the best way for your workout buddy to spot you is with words of encouragement. If you can't make the lift, it's important to learn how to set the bar down on the safety pins.
