Frustrated. Can't decide what to do.

Good evening , everyone.

My training over the past few months has been awful. Training has been quite inconsistent and , haven't really settled into any kind of routine. Basically , just been performing full body style workouts , but with no real structure. I can't decide whether to perform a Push/Pull/Legs split , 3 days-Mon,Wed,Fri. It seems like a very popular split on this forum. Any feedback/advice , would be much appreciated.

Many thanks.

Right now I'm doing a push/pull split 4 times a week. There's no designated legs day and instead on push days you do quads and calves (along with chest, shoulders triceps) and pull days you do glutes and hamstrings (with back and biceps).

I'm deadlifting twice a week on pull days and bench pressing twice a week on push days with the aim of progressing on these lifts. I really like it and would recommend especially if you fear leg day

Stronglifts 5x5 got me started on the path to regular and efficient training. Might be worth a look.

Yes they're examples of two of my training days. My focus is to increase bench and deadlift and i'll change the accessory movements every so often.

As mentioned above, 5x5 is a good starting programme. I've done it and saw decent progression, particularly in squats

This happens to me usually once or twice a year.

The reason being, I forget why I'm there....................sounds stupid,

I will explain. Its easy to get into mundane routines where you just go through the motions, sometimes. Give your head a shake and realize your there to build muscle/better physique, and you wont do this without moving up a gear and taking an avid interest in what your doing and how hard you are doing it.

Once this is in place for a few weeks, you will find you are more focused and what I find is I naturally then start looking for other ideas of how to build muscle and training then becomes a lot more interesting.

Look at youtube for some training ideas and inspiration, don't get stuck in the same boring routines. If your not training hard enough to make a difference, then there will be no difference and you stay bored.

One thing I like doing is throwing variables into my lifts, especially bands and deficits.
Banded rack pulls are great for targeting the top of the deadlift. My favourite is banded strict press as I have a problem with locking out (flipping hard though...)

First step is just pick any program and do it religiously.
While you're doing that you can still look at other programs that might suit you better.  Getting into a routine is the most important thing.
