Gaspari sold and files for bankruptcy

http://www.gasparinutrition.com/rich-gaspari/press-release-gaspari-nutrition-announces-preliminary-investment/

I've been following this for a year or so on another forum and that's just been posted.

Rich's been involved in a number of legal cases which I won't go into but are easily found on Google.

Interesting times for what are (or were as it may be) a big company

low protein % in their tubs as standard (69% for their whey)
even less than stated protein found in tubs (60-50~%)
brown rice protein
introduction of pointless pro-biotics that disrupted bowels everywhere

Thats just their old flagship 'myofusion'.

Can't even trust the big names, eh?
shame really, going to make an already un-trusted industry more so in the eyes of the general puplic.
Gaspari sales will pop up soon, lol.

IMO they are not really a big name.. they just has a large marketing department.
If it was ON i would be saying it was a large name but gaspari are just the middle of the road guys.

In the US market. 80m USD in sales isn't bad but it's not big

ON only did $183m when Glanbia bought them. Sports Nutrition is thriving but no one is massive imho. Herbalife, GNC, Holland & Barrat are massive but everyone else is way below that.

i think $80m in sales is very impressive tbh. Let's put that in perspective. Maximuscle WAS the biggest in Europe with £36m in sales when they got bought by Glaxo for £164m. That's approx $57m.

They may not (who knows) be doing $80m now, but there was a period when they were all over the net, in every store etc. and must have been doing significant sales. When we started in 2008 for example, SuperPump 250 was our best selling pre-workout. Now of course our best sellers are by far our own range by a long, long, long way and in terms of brands a lot has changed. But still $80m is nothing to be sniffed at. I know Liz Gaspari was supposedly valuing the biz at $180m in divorce docs (I'm sure Rich valued it at much less in similar docs lol).

Lets also remember that for example, MusclePharm had revenues of $78m in 2012 and made a loss as marketing spend was so vast.

Any thoughts on MuscleTech for example? I'm thinking they'd be bigger.

They're part of Iovate - including Six Star (sold in Walmart), EPIQ, Hydroxycut, MuscleTech and others.... so no idea for MuscleTech specifically but Iovate must be massive due to being more mainstream. I think from memory their Hydroxycut fat burner side to the business brings in a large % of sales but remember hearing all this a long time ago.

From personal experience, Hydroxycut is in every pharmacy in the States.

I'd recon Iovate must be a few hundred m but tbh they're not just a sports brand. They're VMS as well. Largest in sports must be... ON now? After glanbia spent all that money marketing them internationally?

Since Heath and Cutler promoted muscletech, I'm sure it's pretty big given all the cell tech brahs out there.

At the moment I like musclepharm from US brands, Gaspari had it's time, but got worse, ON will always be ON due to their whey product.

Dymatize I also like, as their whey is similar to that of ON's but significantly cheaper plus tastier imo.

If you love something let it go,if it comes back to you it's yours,if it doesn't it never was.

I'm thinking the same. I recall seeing Weider, via everything except the mags, being a £1B a year business and the mags, as we know, went for $250m or 350??

Yeah it was around that. Mags must be a difficult business at the mo don't you think?
