Getting in touch with lost relatives

Where do you start?

Would like to get in touch with my dads brother, for my dad and grandad's sake.  I have a name, last known whereabouts and name of kids who've taken on a double-barrelled name incorporation my (unual) surname, but how should I go about finding them?

    facebook?

    Already tried.

Kids are too young to be on (I think), and the uncle doesn't appear to be on it.

Church records are usually a good starting point.

I believe JKJ has a relative who specialises in this sort of thing, perhaps he could offer some advice.

your local library will help. either on electoral registers, or various phone books. they might have the births, marriages and deaths index if your uncle has died - although its only goes up to 2006 or so.
theyll also have the address of the local newspaper of the last known whereabouts which is a good idea, badboy.
sorry i cant be more help. ill ask my aunty if you like but she finds dead people for a living! i dont know if she could help really.

    Good luck.

On a side note I have four half brothers who keep contacting me, I have told them politely that Im not interested but they keep trying.

My username has nothing to do with my religious beliefs.....

The Salvation Army contact lost relatives. my sister used them to find an uncle who had broken off all contact after an argument with his brother.
They found him, wrote to him and asked him to contact his sister ( my mother) if he wanted to. He did.

    Thanks all.

The uncle knows where we all are, I don't know if there's been a feud in the past that created this scenario or what, I was a kid when he went AWOL and whatever details about it all seem few.
