Been having a bit of a holiday over New Year, managed to get two 40  minute cardio sessions in but been completely relaxing with the eating. Hoping to train glutes and back later today, as well as get some clean food in.

Looking as if I'll start prepping for competition very soon, so watch this space.

Scary, scary, scary.

Starting some new workouts as advised by my new trainer, and it's all very different to the stuff I've been doing. I don't want to give too much away, but the big heavy lifts have mostly gone. It's all light weights, and lots of reps now. This also means a different pain experience to get used to, and it's not very nice! Am hoping this complete shift will have a big impact on my body shape.

Goodbye heavy squats and deads, hello sculpted behind.

16 weeks!!   Go Gingernut! :)

Errr, awaiting further instruction which will probably come on Tuesday. I have been busy though collecting up a few things. These include;

1 set of ankle weights from Argos (as required by new glute regime)
1 3 meal, '6 pack' meal organiser (looks very smart)

Also spoken to bikini supplier and will seek further guidance on what I need when I see the trainer this week. I think I require a plain one, and a spangly one? Both of the thong back variety. Wasn't sure if the pre-judge one needs to be black, or whether I can have a colour? Will be doing Nabba plus a couple of Open Shows. Think it's only UKBFF who stipulate plain black?

Also put posing music onto a CD, it's a bit of an obscure one so need to give it to the person who'll be helping me with my routine.

Not sure what else I need to do at this point. I'm still on my lean bulk/maintenance diet, although did have some chocolate Friday night!

Swam 64 lengths of 25m pool this morning and walked fairly quickly to the pool and back. I have a feeling the swimming is about to be knocked on the head for the next 5 months somehow!

I'm here guys and it's almost very exciting. Some of you know I've been around for a while, and had some health problems a few years back which had a massive impact on my training. I've commited to getting up on stage this year, and am aiming for the Nabba Northwest held in Southport in May. I've started making moves towards getting hooked up with a trainer, and also been in touch with some bikini people.

My challenge actually started last spring when I really put my demons to bed, and set about losing quite a bit of excess weight to get to a decent starting point for a proper competition prep. I've asked James to move this progress thread into the Competitions section so I can document my journey. I won't be going into detail about my diet and training, it's going to be more of a 'how I'm getting on' type journal.

Where I am currently is in a place of trepidation, I'm wondering if I really can do this, wondering how it's going to affect my life, and will I be good enough? I also have some personal stresses going on, which is causing me a lot of anxiety and that isn't going to go away right now. I just have to push on and hope everything will work out.

In the meantime I'm awaiting my final training and diet plan. I'm quite impatient to get started but the condition I've gotten myself into last year means I can chill for a bit. Feels a bit wrong but I've been told and I'll try and do what I'm told! I also had pizza and chocolate last night to celebrate my birthday, at least that's one thing out of the way before I've started.

I know I'll get some encouragement whilst I'm here and hopefully will be picked up on the bad days.

I am also wondering if NG remembers back in 2010 she posted a promise that she'd come watch me on stage, whereever that was!Ha Ha.

Sounds like you're getting organised!
NABBA pre-judge just needs to be plain (not black) but if you ever consider doing UKFBB you may as well invest in a black one
How are you feeling about the enforced rigidity of comp dieting?

My area competition is a run-through show, so I'll only need a pre-judge bikini if I get through to the British Final. That's a tad ambitious for my first attempt really!

I'm fine with the diet, I've been following a diet James gave me for the last 10 months with perhaps 2 or 3 cheats a week. In fact I was told I was eating too clean for off-season recently and have relaxed a bit!

I'm guessing the person who told you that might've been a man... Us women have to be a lot more careful than the guys slipping in cheats here, there and everywhere! Welshy and me are prime examples, struggling even if we have 2 cheats a week!
Nothing wrong with ambition mrs - keep it up!

Great stuff, you sound the most positive I've ever known. Which trainer did you choose in the end? The one closest to you or the one a little further afield?

No it was a woman, and I think she was correct. Doesn't mean I'll be slipping them later on, I just managed to still make changes with cheats - possibly because the diet was so clean, and I was so consistent the remainder of the time.

I'll send you a pm, it's someone I can get to and actually fits in with something else I do in the area occasionally.

Not too much to add apart from that I'm keeping my diet reasonably under control, and my weight steady. Anyone who's followed my progress will know this is one of my goals, historically I'd lose weight, get quite lean then fall of the wagon - in more ways than one. I know that any extra fat will be mean more suffering later, so am keeping my treats under control whilst eating clean around 80%of the time. Discovered something quite useful last night, I knew I was just about right with kcals yesterday, and wanted to have a piece of chocolate. I'm not very good with chocolate, so I decided to try eating it half way through my late evening cottage cheese snack. It did the trick, I got my chocolate but the cheese blunted the sugar craving for me.

I also have some very nice DOMS at the moment, my training has been altered significantly and I'm doing things in a completely different way. Result is obviously a bit of shock to the old system, it's good but it's also a long time since I've had this effect in certain muscle groups.

Just waiting for my diet now which should start next week sometime, which willl  be 13-14 weeks from 1st comp, 16 from second. For now I'm still following the diet James gave me last year.

All does sound rally good, and nicely in control. Keep going steadily and I'm sure you'll get there without falling off any wagons

Agree with KA, your posts always sound so calm and considered, like you do a lot of thinking and have it pretty sorted.

Nice one on the choc! It's great when we find little tips and tricks like that which work for us.

Thanks. Over the weekend whilst awaiting further orders I ended up having two rest days, and a cheat on Saturday night. I figured it might be the last time I can let my hair down for a while so snook off into town, won't mention the chips and kebab meat I brought back home with me. That's about the dirtiest thing I've eaten in a long time, the chips were lovely but I've put them out of my mind.

Been onto the bikini people who have a sale on, and they've dug one out for me to try and it's half price - so will give me an idea of the sort of fit to expect. If I like it I might have it blinged up, if not it'll do incase I need a pre-judge one.

This no-mans land is feeling difficult at the moment, especially since I have a lot of worries in my personal/work life that are getting to me. This competition is the only thing keeping me going right now, and I'm not being too hard on myself about the cheats either as a result. Just plodding on until I'm told otherwise.

45 mins cardio this am, should be training some hams and gluteage later.

OMG what a flipping quad/glute workout that was today!!!!

Several things stood out for me;

(1) Scaring an innocent passerby with a dog as I squat-jumped in the dark down an alleyway towards him.
(2) Blokes hanging around waiting for the only free bar plus olympic bench (we have 2 oly bars and one benching bench) whilst I've got my arse permanently in the air on said equipment.
(3) Not being able to tell if the water on my face was sweat, or tears I NEVER perspire lifting weights usually but this is ass-busting stuff.

I did not do abs afterwards because I was thoroughly 'worked out'.
