Good gyms in southampton

Hey everyone, ive recently moved to southampton and the uni's gym mainly as im at uni but i think it **** to perfectly honest. Im looking for a gym thats what I call a "proper body building gym". Somewhere thats not so clean cut where you feel like you have just walked into a operating room aka fitness first! Im looking for somewhere with a bit atmosphere, bit of community.

So if you know anywhere or go to a gym like the one described please let me know as leaving the unis gym within the month.

Cheers,

Been far too long since I was last there to remember names or even where they are but there were a good few gyms around some 10-12 years ago.... Bodyworks was one just up from St. Mary's

Kingsland gym just of Parlmerston park in town. Not hard to find as it has 'GYM' in big letters written down the side! I have not see or heard of a better weights gym in town. The guy that runs it day to day recenlty competed at the 'Universe'. Good guy

Also the 'Gym' at Camore Rec Centre out of town near Totton is a great little spit and sawdust gym, plus as has been linked above The weights rooms' in Eastleigh.

Is it a largish building standing alone on the same side as West Quay carpark? If so it's a rec centre and has a naff gym!

Clamore Rec Centre gym was where I used to train and can heartily recommend it, I use it when I go home to see the olds. I was thinking of checking out the GYM when home next time - do you know if they allow casual trainers or pay as you go?

That's a zone fitness before the bridge (I think - certainly one of the chains if not zone) but there ain't a roundabout next to it.

Struggling to place the large roundabout TBH!

its a tiny place, old fashioned brick work, looks like it used to be a warehouse.
has a colour picture of a guy doing a most muscular outside.

Not sure what where you mean. Zone fitness would be my guess but that's closed. Possibly a gym around Bitterne of Woolston that I don't know? It could actualy be Kingsland gym, but it dosn't sound quite right I am puzzled. However I am not from teh area either!
