Gripping a thick bar
I just acquired a bit of scaffolding to use as a thick bar (It's only 1.9" but I can barely get my small hands to touch round it). Having played around with it I have found it's bloody hard to pick up with double overhand grip (max I could lift was 100kg for few uncomfortable seconds). I'd like to start using it for exercises, but for SLDLs and deadlifts, is it ok to use an alternate grip? Or is this self defeative of the purpose of the thick bar?
Thanks

Cheers guys. I think for the time being I will stick to a normal bar and just use the thick one for static holds.
I will definitely look into using it for all exercises in the future though.

Try some one handed moves such as suitcase deadlifts, they are killers for the lower back and abs if you don't bend to the side plus your grip will be worked if you use a thick bar.
