HIIT or Normal Cardio.......

Until recently my cardio sessions consisted of 45min - 1hr on a cross trainer on level 17/20. This burnt 1500 calories (or thereabouts) per session and my heart rate would get to 160 after first 15 mins and be near 175 towards the end of the session (i am 21 years old).

Recently i have started HIIT and i can only manage 25 mins on the treadmill doing the following loop:
40-45 seconds at 17kph
1:30 - 1:45 at 10kph

Heart rates gets to 165 VERY quickly and breaks through 180 towards ends of session, although calories burnt are only in the 450 range. 1000 less than with normal cardio.

Just wanted some reasoning for me to stick with HIIT.

Thanks for your time in advance.

don't go by how many calories the machine says you burned. machines aren't accurate. and HIIT raises your metabolism for 16-24 hours so you will be burning all day. HIIT has been much more effective for me than moderate cardio. in about a 15-20 minute session of HIIT you burn same calories as if you were doing moderate cardio for 45 minutes.
