Hamstring exercises that don't make you strain *down there*?

I'm waiting to start squats and SLDLs for my quads and hams, but I've got wait until I get a belt and my (whisper) piles go down, which are from too much straining. I couldn't figure out why I had them until I was doing hamstring curls the other day - that's what it was!

I'm wondering if there are any exercises that don't involve to much strain on *that area* of the body, or are the hams and there too tied up together when it comes to exercise?

Help me!

but I've got wait until I get a belt

    Why's that then?

As SLDL alternative, you could try GHR (glute ham raises) but I suspect that will place as much if not more strain on your glutes. Probably best to get the 'medical problem' fixed first...

Not categorically, but in effect, yes. About the only thing I can think of that won't is ham curls, which you already do.

Are your piles a recurring problem? It could be you're pushing to hard on the crapper. I got one a while ago and it just went away in about a week. But have never had one from straining in the gym. You don't need a belt to start squatting, get your butt in that rack.

I don't think your piles will be caused by straining in the gym mate. I get them from time to time. It's only from straining on the toilet too much, so I wouldn't change your routine if I was you. Unless of course it is causing you too much discomfort just now, then change it until you are sorted again and then just go back to your original exercises.

Nah guys, I never strain on the loo - trust me, when I was curling on the ham curl, I could feel them go, and started itching again. I thought that squats are renowned for making some people strain anyway.

Sore subject lads. Get yourself some Anusol which should relieve the itchyness if nothing else.

Piles can often be brought on by staining on the bog. Thats how I first got mine years ago, although it was kinda training related- 'cos I would force myself to go before a session.

That being said I don't think that I have had them in relation to the squats and deads that are in my routine even though there is quite a bit of internal pressure build up, especially on the deads.

groovemeister- sort out your breathing on the hamstring curls, there should be no real reason for you to raise your internal pressure on this exercise, unlike the squats and deadlift- where there is. Also ditch the belt, it wont help you wave goodbye to your unwelcome guests and you don't want to get dependent on lifting with a belt.
