Hanging leg raises problems

hey, i have been doing a lot more stomach recently and have started to use different machines and techniques.

however i have a problem when doing leg raises or almost any sort.

i usually use this machine http://www.weight-lifting-workout-routines.com/hanging-leg-raises-straight.jpg

when i do the exercise i get a clicking feeling im my back its always down the left side and it doesnt hurt as such just feels uncomfortable.

i was wondering if anyone else had this problem and had any ideas for me it also does it when i raise my leg if im lying flat on the floor and do a leg raise that way so i dont think it is just that specific machine / exercise its all legs raises.

(however this doesnt happen when i have my legs bent as in bend my knees)

    Yes,i have this too.

I have found keeping a bend in the legs, making sure you start the movement by curling up your hips, and stopping just short of the legs hanging straight down stopped it happening.

It also makes the exercise more effective for me....Keeping a constant bend in the legs and ensuring you're curling your hips up makes it more of a crunch movement to hit the abs as opposed to it becoming a hip flexor/lliopsoas exercise.

I've no idea why it happens..I've visited a chiropractor many times and he's never mentioned anything sinister..

If in doubt, get it checked out though.
