Fact is the large majority of burgalries are perpetrated by a very small number of serial burglars who are addicts and driven by the incessant need to score.

There are not masses of burglars outside the door, rather some very very driven ones.

I`m dubious of any crime stats tbh as I`ve seen first hand just how they can be manipulated, it doesn`t surprise me that Manchester is that high up though, the student population will make up a massive part of any stat in this case.

Never been burgled though, I pity the fool who tries, I have various old 5 kilo plates around the first and second floor windows for the obvious target windows downstairs and an air rifle if I catch them in the garden, `pop a cap in yo ass`.

I live in Manc and have had stuff nicked from the garden, and an attempted break-in of the front door, stupid prick put his hand through the glass to try and open the (deadlocked) door and all he had to show for it was cut hands as he left a load of blood dripping down the window lol.

That was in an old house though, the one I'm in now is impenetrable to a casual burglar, you'd need to smash the **** out of the doors to get through.

When I was a kid a mate knocked at my door and when I nipped away for a second he tried to nick 10p from a pile of coins on the stairs. Fortunately my mum came out and beat him up, so all was well. If it happened today poor mum would probably be in Holloway.

Now I'm all grown up I have a business partner trying to nick a heeyoooge amount of money from me and I don't think that the "my mum will beat you up" threat is going to have much effect. Happy days.

Sunday morning I awoke to find the pane of glass in my door broken and the door on the latch. Glass everywhere BUT nothing stolen.

Luckily managed to get a local guy to fix the door today for £65.

Police say because I'm in a secluded area must be someone I know. Scary.

Only realised it was gone at 8am next day, had it back by 11. no thanks to the police, who where useless. but i know a lot of dodgey people, few phone calls later i picked it up from a car park....

      Door now gets locked!!

Had my flat broken into about 4 weeks after I moved in.. it all went down hill from there. Place became overridden with smack heads and at one point I was the only person "legally" occupying a block of 10!!!

All good now though, a guy bought out the 10 and reinforced the sh1t out of the place, also manages mine for me as I sublet it to him.

My house at home was broken into 8 times when I was growing up. It's location and the fact it's a nice big house made it a prime target.

It's like fort knox now, shame really, you shouldn't have to do that to your house. Got pretty sick off comingnhome from school and seeing my mum in tears as well.

I guess thats what happens growing up somewhere full of scum !

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the darkness at Tan Hauser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time like tears in rain. Time to die

yes, my parents house has been broken into a cuople of times and some of my stuff went, including a set of golf clubs custom made for me that cost me a lot that will get sold to someone who can't use them cos they are blades set 2 degress upright with a v. stiff shaft

had my car broken into a couple of times as well, pretty annoying, I'd rather be the person with the nice house or car than the person whose life is at such a point as they are stealing though

My parents let my friend who had been made homeless stay in his tent in our garden (he wasn't a good enough friend to let him stay in the house!).
He ended up nicking my skateboard and my trainers.

      I hate that bastard

Been burgled a load of times - especially when I lived in Leicester for some reason.
      Had several bikes stolen.
Car radio-cassette players have been ripped out my car three times.
Someone once stole a plantpot with some herbs in it from beside my back door.

£-wise the biggest thefts have been deposits lost to scumbag landlords for spurious reasons.
