Have you ever had to run for your life?

Today, I had to run for my life. It was not a pleasant experience even though it was over in seconds. A colleague has ended up in hospital because a scaffold was not properly secured. It reminded me of this quote. Life is good.

At least once every human should have to run for his life, to teach him that milk does not come from supermarkets, that safety does not come from policemen, that 'news' is not something that happens to other people. He might learn how his ancestors lived and that he himself is no different--in the crunch his life depends on his agility, alertness, and personal resourcefulness.

A few times although it is unlikely I would of died. Possibly stabbed. Back in the day when we used to get mugged/attempted mugged all the time.

The only other time is almost being hit by a car and having to jump out the way.

That momentary feeling of sheer terror haha.

As above, got held up at knifepoint when I was 15 - pushed the guy back and gave it toes. Never moved so fast in my life before or since

Ran from a serious beating twice. Ran from the police 8 or 9 times. The police times really used to make me feel alive.

When my old dear stood on a snake in South Africa and the poor thing was rudely awoken from its afternoon sunbathing by my old dears size 5 and about 10st stepping on it. Naturally it decided to get the **** out of dodge and came at me like an sidewinder missile flying about mach ten along the ground with weapons locked.

Fearing for my life from this massive 8 ft clearly poisonous possibly fire breathing snake that was intent on killing me for my mothers indiscretion I did what any manly 21 year old lad would have done. Screamed at the top of my voice and fcking legged it at a rate of knots Usain Bolt can only dream off. Seriously I reckon I would have easily gone 400m in about 10s till I ran up the parked car and stood on the roof clutching a golf club from the golf bags are had not five minutes earlier left by the car.

Not my proudest moment but **** me it makes the whole family laugh because after my mum stood on it the snake obviously moved she then **** herself and jumped clean onto my fathers back who was in front wondering what the **** was going on with them both ending on the deck.

Turns out was just some harmless rat snake type thing and about 3ft long according to the bemused locals watching us.

Not run but drive. In a game park on the way to the camp and watching a herd of elephants. Suddenly out of know where a bull appeared in the road and he was twice the size of the other elephants and wasn't happy. Trumping and flapping his ears and starting to move towards us. I had a trailer on the car, and had to put it in reverse do a 3 point backwards turn while not jacknifing the thing into my dads tourag. As I get perpendicular to the road, he started charging at full pelt. I still had to go back to give me space to complete the turn. I was like the stig, Colin McRae and Michael Schumachers love child. Never been so scared in my life!

Down in burnley for a night out some boys started aggro for no reason basically cause we were Scottish.

Kept calling us sweaty socks(jocks), lost my head and hit him, turned round n his mate had the biggest blade I've ever seen, almost a sword.

Honestly must've sprinted at full felt for about 15mins.

Ha I couldn't even tell you tbh.

The irony is I absolutely love snakes and fascinated by them when the same thing happened in France a few years later ( Dont go walking with your doris old dear)  I was like oh look how cute a nice little Colourve or whatever they call them didn't even bat an eyelid but I tell you when it on the African Continent it was a mutant Spitting Cobra Black Mamaba Boomslang Puff Adder Rock Python all rolled into one hell bent on ending my life LOL.

Later on in the trip though saw a baby been mamba and a young cobra when with a guide and was seriously cool.

Well that's a reasonable reaction.

I've had a knife pulled on me when I was a teenager, but to be honest, I wasn't scared for my life, as my intuition told me that he wasn't going to use it. I acted more scared than I was just to massage his ego... and I was right, it all ended well.

I have however been in a position when I truely thought my life was over... I am severly allergic to nuts, and I had a bad reaction when I was on my own and believed at the time that I was no-where near to getting help (ie, a hospital / adrenaline)...

... I had difficulty breathing due to my throat closing up, and my vision was slowly fading away to darkness.  I remember thinking to myself "I can't believe this is the end, and what a silly and trivial way to die".  I was panicing and very scared.  I came close, but obviously I am still here, but it shook me up for a long time afterwards - rest of the day I was in bits.

I used to walk into a room full of people & wonder if they liked me..... Now I look around & wonder if I like them

Yes when I was about 16/17 I would have been stabbed to death if caught, mistaken identity they thought I was shouting abuse at them the week before.

Scary stuff especially at that age
