Have/Would you buy something from a door salesman?

I know we had a thread recently about people knocking on your door, and Doooh i just answered mine and it was someone offering me broadband.

In the same way as tuc i feel a bit like i have just been impolite. Tried to be friendly at first but they obviously have this training method where every time they see the possible customer (me/you) try and close the door they ask you a question or blurt out something to catch your attention.

In the end i just said "your talking on deaf ears luv". And closed the conversation there. NOW FCUK OFF AND LEAVE ME ALONE! is what i wanted to say.

Have you ever actually followed up an offer from a door to door sales person?
I have not, and never will. Its to in your face for my liking! How do you feel about them?

They never sell anything I'm interested in, so no.

Took a leaflet once because we were thinking of new windows anyway but we didn't follow it up. I find it annoying as the dogs kick off when the doorbell rings, I got to shut them in the kitchen, is all a bit of a panic and then turns out it's someone trying to sell you something you don't want. But I'm polite but firm as personally I think it is probably quite a disheartening job and they probably get abuse regularly.

I had some T.W.A.T phone me up trying to get me to sign up to a landline contract.  He wouldn't take no for an answer so I ended up telling him I didn't have any friends or family and did not have anyone to talk to, then asked if he would be my friend so we could chat on the phone etc.  He soon funked off..... Winding them up is so much better than just hanging up.

    My 3 favourite things:
    1.  Meeting new people
    2.  Power Tools
    3.  Unblocking my drains....

I think if something is really worth buying they wont have to look for the customers the custormers  come to you...so in 99.9% of cases the stuff their selling is s**t, so based on that i have not or would not buy from those anoying ****s

No I haven't.  I wouldn't on principle even if I actually wanted the product - the whole idea that salespeople, or rather the companies that employ them, think it is acceptable to bother you at home is completely wrong.  Same goes for charities as well.

    People do though.

When I was unemployed around 5 years ago I took a job going door to door trying the get people to sign up to npower.

It was commission only and a totally crap job, however everyday you would find between 3 and 5 people to sign up.

Each sign-up paid £35 and if you signed more than 20 a week you got £45 per signup.

So 20 signups is worth £900 a week.

You can see why some people do it as £900 a week is a fair bit of money.

I felt a bit sorry for a woman who was back collecting one of those Kleeneze type catalogues last night.  I doubt they make anything and she was respectable and polite.  But I just tell all the 'charity' collectors and others to just go away.  It's my house and my time, I didn't ask for them to come and disturb me regardless of whether its a rubbish job for them or not.

I saw a kleeneze chap the other night out collecting his brochures from people's houses.

On the back of his filthy, dented 2001 Xsara Picasso he has huge stickers reading:

" Earn a MASSIVE INCOME  - visit our website"

Who does he think he is kidding?

I once answered the door in a haze first thing in the morning when i was about 16, some bloke wanting to do a survey, I don't why, but i let him in and he started reeling off question after bloody question, then he started asking me about Condoms and porn !! , my old man overheard what this fella was asking me and walking through the door and picked up the blokes stuff and launched it out of the door and then told the bloke he had 1 second to get out, the bloke ran out the bloody door !!!

My old man said if anyone knocks on the door again "tell em f**k off" , good old dad !! lol

Don't know what it is about my old man and sales people, i think they are just 'natural enemies' ,  I remember me and my dad sitting in the back garden once and some bloke just come walking straight through our back gate with a clip board, we didn't notice him at first but then he walked straight up to our garden table and said ' are you the owners, i wonder if i can interest you in changing your gas supplier", my dad went absolutely mental, i thought the bloke was going to cry !!
I've still got his folder, a shoe, are some pens in my shed that  he lost whilst dad was 'helping' him into the street.
They got their own back though, because he faked my dads signature and signed us up to there most expensive service !! , we had months of hassles sorting out that mess.

This wasn't even Kleeneze, it was some kind of green product stuff instead, so basically Kleeneze stuff but more expensive.  But I wouldn't know cos I never even opened it.

In our last house, my wife did buy something from the Kleeneze guy, but it was rubbish and broke so he had to come and take it back.

I suspect Kleeneze really works along MLM lines anyway, the profits are in recruiting the sales people rather than them actually selling anything.

No never, I am polite but firm, and I find my appearance deters anyone broking an argument.

The only one ever was one of those lads selling cleaning stuff, he was very polite, quite funny and honest that he was doing it as he had come out of prison.

See even if I am interested on what they are selling  I just do an automatic equation in my head , that goes something like

Your price  = best available price + you & your companies markup

Even if it is something I realy want , I couldn't allow myself to agree to the "extra" charges .

Exactly. I've never had Michael Jordan at my front door trying to sell me Nike Shoes or Steve Jobs trying to flog me an I Phone.

What they have, I don't want.

Although I did complete a survey for a really friendly asian guy when I was unemployed. He wasn't much older than me so I thought I'd help him out.
