Healing Broken Bones

True to form 1 week before my shoulder op I decided to go an snap my fooking shin clean in half so am all plated up and retarded waiting to fly back to the UK.

Had quick look on line about best things for helping heal bones i.e. diet sups etc and there seems to be a lot of pseudo science as well as fact.

Can anyone offer some real advice? I am pretty baked on painkillers most of the time atm so am not eating a lot so anything soft/shake based would be good.

Thanks

How did it happen?  Please don't say skiing related as I'm off in 2 weeks

I have been reading some encouraging logs on BPC-157 Peptide, for bone healing.
Although this is still relatively new and exact protocols for use are still being worked out.
I would also be cautious of speeding the healing up at the expense of things healing in correct form.
Bones will heal pretty quickly but the actual final forming and strengthening of the bones structure can take time.
MGF was a favourite but recently less people seem to rate it.
A lot of people rate Comfrey herb (known as "Knitbone") but this could be Pseudo.

Ignorance: Reassuringly Expensive.

Yep Jack totally snapped in two. I have a plate running the entire length of my shin. Apparently it spiral fractured as well. Total mess. Dylan was skiing but totally freak accident could have happened to anyone anytime plus I have had problems with my shins for years so I always felt it was going to break.

Will out pics up when I'm back lol.

Seen a few of these in MMA recently, apparently thry now encourage you to start walking on it ASAP, the impact encourages quicker healing supposedly.

I am not in a cast or anything and no weight on it for 6 weeks. I can't see how impact can possible heal a fracture I think that may be a different kind or someones taking the piss lol.

It depends entierly on the type of fracture. With some fractures weight bearing will help with repair, whilst others it can be detrimental.

Body Weight - 83kg
Bench - 145kg
Squat - 190kg
Clean & Jerk - 129kg
Snatch - 98kg

Not sure mate. They did it with Anderson Silva, Tyrone Spong was trying to walk 40 hours after surgery on this.

Looks mighty uncomfortable though. Not seen this video, it was one where he was walking on a running machine at the gym about a week after that I remember seeing.

Please don't forget Vitamin D as it helps the bones to absorb the calcium. I started a serious bodybuilding program 6 months ago and now I am 6 weeks into a broken ankle. 9 screws and 2 plates. The best of luck to you.

I shattered my bog toe and broke my foot some time ago, did quite alot of reading and research on this and found good research on Cissus Quadrangularis and accelerated fracture healing (by up to 50%) I took it and was very happy with my recovery. Consultant Ortho was also surprised at how quickly my fractures healed.

I would be skeptical of that Dav. Who conducted these studies and what did they have to gain? If they could replicate up to 50% in studies without bias then this would be a truley ground breaking treatment.

I'll have a look myself now for the research. If you have any good links feel free to post though. I'm interested.

vit d, calcium and a good multi. beyond that, no. the weight bearing thing is just a function of the bones and how they grow/maintain. Look into astronauts and bone mineral loss for the revers and reasons

Hammer the micronutrients and minerals, vit D and plenty of leafy greens, cissus anecdotally gets decent outcome again - not seen the 50% improvement data but sounds great!

Jack my consultant had heard of it and we spoke about the benefits, he was of Indian decent. Cissus is a mainstay in traditional Auryvedic medicine and has been used successfully for thousands of years. My fractures were extensive and complex and it worked a treat - I was under a consultant for a while and progress was in his words more rapid than expected. There is research on cissus out there which shows its potential - much of it Indian tho unsurprisingly. Altho the Indian Medical system etc... should be looked on as being extremely thorough as it is in the main excellent as it was set up by and still follows English standards.
