Help - Confused and a little concerned...

I finished a 3 month cut on the anabolic diet last week and lost a stone. Went from 12.8 to 11.8 and was really happy. I had a bit of a naughty weekend food wise, but not too serious, just blew off some steam and had what I wanted.

I then re-introduced carbs back in to my diet yesterday. Mainly in the form of a couple of wholemeal pittas for lunch, one for 4pm, an apple and a banana. Nothing too outrageous.

Im concerned cos when I weighed myself this morning I weighed 12.5. Now I understand that some of it is water and I understand that my glycogen levels wont be depleted like they are at the end of the week on the ananbolic diet. But 11lbs?? Plus it puts me only 3lbs better off from when I first started.

Now if I continue maintainin the diet like this, am I gonna stay at 12.5? I dont fully understand. Im too frightened to return to a maintenance diet and now want to go back to my cutting regime to get back down to 11.8 again.....

it will be mainly water. adding carbs again will increase water retention

to put on 11lbs of fat you would have to eat around 35,000kcals.. from a few pitta breads and an apple, not likely

dont get too hung up on what the scales say.. go by what you look like in the mirror

work out your maintainance kcals and stick to it and your weight shouldnt fluctuate too much

keep some cardio in there and eat clean, wholesome foods

I know I wouldnt have put on that much fat, just confused as im only 3lbs off where I started.

I was just unsure how much of that weight loss was 'real' weight and not just water. Obviously the scales were dropping each week, but I feel like im at square one....

Have you trained since re introducing carbs?

As above it is all water but it's difficult to say anything either over and above what has already been said because we'd need to know your % bodyfat before, after and now. It has been suggested that the AD increases insulin sensitivity (there is some small amount of research to support this I believe) so that may mean a bigger increase in water retention than you would expect but don;t worry too much at the moment.

Eat as you are, train and see what happens weight wise but try and keep some record of bodyfat even if it is just by eye. This will help you adjust things.

My best advice would to eat a balanced diet that is just as effective but with no side effects and variables to worry about.

But what does any of that mean?!

    Balanced?
    Just as effective?
    No side effects?
    No variables?

It just goes to show that cutting carbs isn't the way to go to lose fat. It gives you an unrealistic view of how much weight/fat you've lost.

Balanced = Plenty of protein, carbs and fat

Just as effective = A balanced diet is healthier, achives the same results and is 100% sustaniable.

Side effects and variables = Nothing to worry about like fluctuating carb intake, mood affecting diets etc etc

Basically don't follow a ''revolutionary'' diet that doesn't work long term.

And I would like to stress in particular a lot of peoples view on carbs and losing weight is dead wrong.

It annoyes me when people advise the low carbs light cardio bull**** that is completely uneccessary and just causes people problems in the long run.

Im happy with the way the diets gone, as i've weighed myself at the same time and situation every week and i've watched my weight drop from 12.8 to 11.8. So I knew I had to be losing fat.

Its the coming off it that has freaked me out. I dropped my carbs out today, went for a 40 min run after work and weighed in at 12.1. So feel a little better. Still 5lb up from last weeks weight....

like we'v said, monitor body fat and what you look like, not your weight

5lbs is only 2.5 litres of water
