Well an isolated exercise is one where it trys to isolate a muscle and usually involves one joint movement. An example would be a bicep curl, you curl the weight up trying to target the biceps without any help from other muscles.
    Other examples of isolated exercises:

    Hammer curls
    Lateral raises for delts
    Peckdeck/flyes
    Shrugs
    Leg ex.
    Leg curls
    Crunches

A compound exercise is one which usually requires mutlple muscle groups and joints. An example is the squat. Using both the knee joint and the hips. You are targeting the leg muscles, but also the midsection is being use to stablise the lift.
    Other examples of compounds:

    Benchpresses
    Dips
    Shoulderpress
    Deadlifts
    Squats
    Rows
