I'm using a chest supported back machine at the moment. I was doing incline rows because of the support but I found just picking the bells up was too much. The machine isnt that bad to be honest, and its not going to be forever.

It's not the end of the world. Maybe you could use the time off to...

Do some extra cardio and lose a bit of fat if you aren't in a position to fully hit the weights hard. Or maybe you can really concentrate on your Bench Press, or other upper-body movements?

Also, why don't you do chin-ups for your back? Would that be allowed?
Are you allowed to use a Leg Press machine?

Dunno, been asking the same question.

Chins are a no, can't take the weight pulling down on my spine. Dunno exactly whats wrong...something to do with missing a piece of bone from one of my vertibre or something. Like where they join in the back, there is part missing..or something..i saw it on the X Ray.

Can't do any cardio unless is use like maybe an eliptical machine, as that would be no shock at all i suppose. Maybe for back i could do chest supported rows?

Why did you get X Rays? Was your back bothering you which caused you to go get it looked at? What were the symptoms?

when i hurt my back the physio let me cardio on bike, elliptical and swim. at first i was annoyed that i couldn't lift weights but after a bit i started enjoying my cardio sessions. my legs are noticeably harder and i have more definition in my upper body now compared to before xmas even though i didn't lift a single weight, my general fitness is also up. don't think of it as an inconvienience but as another fitness challenge.

Sly if you gonna do chest supported rows, make sure its a machine not the freeweight version.

i guess deads are out of the question...haha. I was wondering where you've been sly. I would take a break until you completely heal. you don't want to injure yourself for life and your still young, you have many lifting years to come. hope everything gets well!

Sly - don't be foolish man!

Lay off the weights until you're better...they'll still be there when you get back!

It's a thought, as I always wanted to do swimming for cardio, but aren't any indoor pools in the area, and far to cold for a lake or an outdoor one.

Has the doctor told you how long the recovery will be????? How did you know to go to the doctor? What were the symptoms?

knighty is right mate. Don't risk ANYTHING! If i was in your situation i would do all my rehab work by the book and build a super grip strength as well. grip training gives me the same kind of mental satisfaction than weights training.

But if your doc says it's ok, then i guess it's up to you mate. Thing is, you have a heavy lifter in you so chances are you are going to go too heavy before soon, be careful!

Vegan is spot on - while you are fannying about with half-assed attempts to training, sooner or later the temptation to squat or DL will get the better of you...it did with me many times, so I just accepted my fate and dealt with it. The body is an amazing organism and can bounce back from virtually anything...no injuries need to be permanent providing you rehab them well.

    Stay strong buddy
