Crikey. The parents said something like he can eat three big bowls of rice, which wis way more than we can eat. Erm so he can probably eat three sticks of butter, or climb the curtains and swing headfirst into the wall. You're the parents, don't let him! The best bit "No matter how hard the family restricts Hao's diet and pushes him to move more the toddler has still managed to put on 10kg (22 lbs) in the past year." Bullsh1t!

He looks like the sumo guy from the american football film The Replacements. He's nearly as big as him too. 'To push Hao to do more sports, the family installed a basketball hoop in the yard and often take him to swim in a local river. But the exercise just make him hungrier and results in him putting on more weight.'

Im not sure what condition would exist that would explain this..he eats to much and has far to much fat on his body, in relation to what is being fed to him thats about right....if he was eating a really small/ normal amount and at this weight then sommin would be up.

Osagi The kid may genuinely have a medical problem. Osagi Diabetes Cardiac issues Hypertension Joint problems etc Yep, them allowing him to get that fat has no doubt caused him lots of issues As for an issue that would cause such weight gain, again, parents take 100% responsibility IMO - they are overfeeding him, he has no ability to get food other than from them, ergo, all their fault. Even if he has something like Prada Willies, he is not capable of feeding his 'needs' without their help. Have to say, he looks pretty fecking cool though, face is like a drawing or something

^^ My thoughts, not trying to troll, but his food consumption is quite a likely cause of his size.

Ok, let me extend that; He may genuinely have a medical condition that his parents aren't aware of and as such, perhaps, they don't have the knowledge or understanding to deal with it correctly. It seems they are trying to do the right thing by taking him to three doctors. Just my op. Osagi

I agree that another medical condition may be present - Prada Willies or a tumour somewhere on the pituitary for example, are IMO the 2 most likely reasons for this kind of weight gain. However, he is a 3 year old infant. He only eats what his parents give him. They have complete control of his calorific intake. Unless laws of physics are falling all around us, they are quite simply feeding him too much. He could piss and moan all he liked if he stayed with me, fact is, I wouldn't let him eat 3 bowls of rice for tea !!! Hence my conclusion, regardless of what underlying condition he may or may not have, his parents are doing an exellent job of killing him by not restricting his calorific intake

I'm with Tony on this, at some point the parents have to acknowledeg that they are at least part of the problem with the over feeding, in no way is that acceptable parenting. Granted getting different docs views is a step in the right direction, but it is merely alleviating any blame or guilt when it comes to meal time, i feel sorry for the kid he is in for a very tough life with possiibly a myraid of health issues plaguing what will probably be a short lived life. ask him on his death bed at 30 if he wishes his parents would have said 'no' to bowls 2 and 3 of rice and i bet he would answer honestly with a resounding yes.

You'd struggle to get most kids to eat that much at that age (with the exception of sweet things) so there's clearly a problem with his appetite somewhere. Kids generally don't just consume any and all food put in front of them - they're not dogs!!! Maybe a leptin dificiency?
