Holiday Bellies

Looking at going to Egypt later in the year.

Girlfriend always ends up with a dodgy belly and mucks things up a bit. Anything we can do to help protect potential stomach trouble?

Do not drink tap water under any circumstance. Use bottled water to wash teeth with. Steer clear of ice in drinks. Salads can be dodgy if washed in tap water. In general, try to make sure everything you eat is piping hot. Peel all fruit.

Take Immodium with you just in case

I always drink the tap water in these places, usually because Ive ran out of bottles and wake up in the middle of the night with my tongue stuck to the top of my mouth. I get the sh1ts yes.. but I get them anyway.

    As above.

Also get some jabs from your doctors, especially for Hepatitis A

I'm going to Morocco in two weeks would you guys issue the same sort of advice?

Has anyone seen Babel? Brad Pitt goes to have a drink with some ice in it and his wife goes nuts!

    What happened?

My brother insists that we do not need any jabs or anything like that. I think I probably would have drank a drink with ice in before reading this thread.

Not sure about jabs, perhaps the Dr can answer that. I didn't have any. I had some sort of food poisoning / bug, I don't know what it was but for the whole 5 weeks I was ill from both ends (if you know what I mean) ... it continued when I got home for ages. Should have gone to the Dr really but I was young and silly. I think it might have been a parasite or something urgh

I have just recently returned form Egypt and my missus got a very bad stomach, ill for about 4 days, couldnt even leave the room. Finally we went to an Egyptian Pharmacy and he prescribed a few diff things which sorted her out almost instantly. We found out afterwards that a different rep was telling all the other English about these concotions on the off chance they got the bug, however our rep was useless and told us nowt!

Moral of the story is..if you get the squitters dont be afraid to find the nearest pharmacy and take whatever they give you!
