Holland & Barett Flaxseed oil (liquid not caps)

Just purchased 2 X  500ml flaxseed oil in their buy 1 get 2nd for a penny sale earlier 2day, paid about £10, which i thought is agood deal considering the equivelant cost of 1l of udo's or good oil range.

However, just added 20ml to my bedtime protein as usual, took a gulp of my shake & nearly puked all over the place. Shake tasted of fish. Went to taste oil from bottle id opened & it tasted like mild cod liver oil as oppose to the nutty/buttery flavour of flaxseed ive have had b4.

Thinkin it could be a prob wiv that bottle, i opened up the other 1, only 2 find the f****r tasted the same. Both bottle are in date & the security tabs on lid unbroken. Can only think H&B have messed up a bottled it wrong.

Anyway, im goin back 2mora 2 get my money back, but as is usual in these cases i chucked my reciept. If i get any s**t from the staff with regard to refunds il squirt um (wiv the fishy flaxseed).

the only thing its good for its coating your cricket bat ....

best sources of flax oil in my opinion are....

high barn oils (where i get mine from) or savant health

you wont believe the difference in taste

I dont buy this anymore, but i remember I first bought it from H&B. Was always pretty grim.

I then started getting it from Sainsburys and used to taste great, nutty etc. basically how its suppossed to taste. this was a good 5 or so years ago. They usually keep it in the ingrediants section of the bread isle. Go for that instead. saying that im sure theres loads of places that offer now at a decent price.

Bought it many times from H&B and it's never tasted nutty/buttery, just need to grin n' bear it.

This is odd theres now many comments stating that H&B flax/linseed oil is not the best quality, it sounds like you have bought a rancid oil for sure. Do not taste anymore and demand a refund.
As others have stated Flax that is fresh should have a light nutty taste and is great with most flavours of whey or ice cream etc. I grind my own from the seeds which are supposed to be better due to the extra fibre. I have also read some folk being skeptical that the caps and the oil types are 'fresh' at all and are already near rancid, due to the nature of flax having a short lifespan anyway once ground from the seed.
My advice is to buy the seeds in bulk and grind yourself!

some companies do not cold press their flaxseed which damages the fats in the oil and can give it some bad flavours.

Your best bet is to go for cold pressed oil as i is better for you (and tastes nicer IMO)

The Udos one is pretty bad too especially when its sliding down your throat. I did feel much helthier for it though and my skin went really smooth. I have the capsules now so no issues with the taste.

My tesco stocks it, they call it by its other name Linseed and is usually among the nuts and seeds in a clear packet. I know theres cheaper ways to get the seeds in bulk, maybe someone here knows!

I drink it with a glass of squash but don't mix it in the glass. Not ideal but I am determined to finish the bottle before buying a nicer tasting one!

To one of the posters above: It is supposedly cold pressed. It does indeed taste like fish but personally I love it in chocolate flavoured shakes. It was particularly nice in Reflex's one stop.

I have found recently that adding this to an omelette makes it taste great. No idea why but it does. IMO anyway.
