Closest I've managed to get with decent macros

20g philly extra light
1 scoop whey
5g coconut or almond flour
1 tbsp granulated sweetener (I used Splenda, or could use Stevia)

Pulse the philly in a microwave until melty then add the rest of the ingredients.  Mix with a wooden spoon - very dry at first but starts to come together after a while.  Form in to a bar and chill.

Makes a 50g bar - 157 cals, 22p, 5c, 6f

Makes a fairly dense, chewy bar.  Not exactly like a quest but not too bad.  Needs some more work, would probably be improved by some oat flour!

tried something like that,
50g low fat cream cheese
1 1/2 protein scoops
5 g psylum husk

came out a bit sticky so dropping the cream cheese down to 30g, but thats a really good base to work from

I too have tried to make these or something similar and found by using Xanthium gum a product for baking for Coeliacs the mixture stayed together really well, taste was not what I hoped for though.

Never had a quest Bar, but I believe the Oh Yeah Victory bars are quite similar? Its never even crossed my mind to try and make this kind of protein bar. Nothing you try will come close to it IMO.

I have however made protein flapjacks etc

They got 8/10g sugar in them where as most quests have 1/2g in them

Yea I have heard that Quest Bars have the 'best' nutritionals for a protein bar. I'll deffo be trying them following my show.

If anyone is interested Bioneutra have just dropped their shipping costs and it's now 28D for 5kg of IMO syrup, so 78D (about £46) in total.  Not sure on the 1kg price or what any duty would be.

Ought to make about 250 homemade bars (v rough estimate - quest have approx 18g fibre, IMO is 91% fibre so each bar should have around 20g IMO.  5000/20 = 250).

So the IMO part would cost about 19p ber bar, then you just need to factor in 20 odd grams of whey, a few grams of nuts, sweetener and flavourings.

Should be pretty cheap!

What the hell, just bought a kilo

It's in Canadian dollars so even cheaper than above (17p), my kg shipped is £13.50 or approx 27p per bar.  Figured there was no point getting 5kg until I'd actually tried making one haha.

Please come back when you have it delivered and tell how you got on with making your own.

I was interested in buying this material from Canada but was put off by how much the shipping was going to be, the new shipping cost is much more reasonable and the fact that Sterling is so strong right now makes importing a bit cheaper as well, actually about 15% cheaper from when exchange rate was $1.5 to £1.

PS:Did you buy the syrup or powder?

Haha, I know.  I'm up for the challenge though!

If it works I'll hit up the good folks of MT for some flavour combo ideas

Would flax Gel work as a binding agent instead of honey ?

There's no honey in quest bars.

My imo has arrived, no issues with delivery at all. Not had a chance to use it yet - maybe this weekend

I'd say flax is unlikely to give the same effect tbh.

Post up your end result and recipe when you do make a batch.

I think this stuff is very sweet so won't require any additional sweetner.
