How Strongman Competition should be?

Following on from the ongoing discussion in the greatest WSM thread: -

In what direction do you think Stongman Competition should go?

If i have not mentioned any viable options then let me know.

Cheers

same here, up the weights by 10-20%, not any more though, and i severely dislike any event that resembles PL it should all be odd object. i would really like to see how they would carry a fridge full of concrete over 100m course.

i would say same but maybe heavier.
some of the best events ive seen have been these-

heavy deadlift reps on a 2" bar
    max log clean and press
    appolons axle clean and press

for me, a good strongman event would have the following...

    1) heavy farmers walk. like hawaii gp weight- 150kg-175kg per hand.
    2) atlas stones; classic- perhaps heavier than standard?
    3) barallel loading squat event
    4) dead for reps on 2" bar.
    5) max log clean and press
    6) heavy train pull.

This is good stuff from badboy and i agree, using some PL moves but with thicker bars - no support gear etc can surely have their place in strongman.

imo the only time they should use bars is to see how much weight they can get overhead by an means possible, and a 3" bar. he heh ha.

What about max weight for two reps on deads or squat, shorter distance heavier farmers, odd object carry fridge would be ok the 2cv car walk was a fav of mine and i liked the bar bending in the capes days.

do you reckon they could get a washing machine overhead. that would be good, power cleans + O press, from the deck every time, that would be ace.

    Spot on there mate!

I had forgotten about the old car walking, always looked painful when they fell over!

To whomever voted for starting another heavier competition, i am interested - what sort of format might this take? I have thought about this a few times, it is a fascinating idea.

    cheers

    Same here.

Of course upping the weights in certain events is not appropriate. Such as the Atlas stones, which only a very few of the top guys can get all five without tacky. If the weights were upped it would actaully make the Atlas stones a lighter event in a way! Because everyone would be going for 4 stones with speed, as opposed to 5 stones at any cost.

Actually the heavier grand prix events such as the Canadian and Hawian ones recently have some good weights. Like 175kg per hand farmers walk. That's heavy! Or the log press world record being set. Again that's heavy!

I must also say I like all the usual events, there are no bad ones apart from throwing which is stupid. I even like crucifix hold!

Strongman events already do have the big weights that most of us want, I just think most of us would like to see the bigger weights all the time, as opposed to just sometimes.

That is exactly what i would like to see, The Hawaii competition was spot on, or at least verynear to it imo.

As i have said before, strongman is very close to what i, and i think many others, would like to see, it is just a matter of tweaking it rather than revolutionising it.

I'd love to see a strongman competition just once take place without a stopwatch, except for a timed hold. So that would give you:

    1. Silver Dollar Deadlift - Very heavy event to kick things off!

    2. Crucifix hold - the only event where time is an issue, and that is who holds on longest, not who does stuff fastest.

    3. Farmers walk for distance - Lets see who can take 150kg a hand the furthest.

    4. Keg throw for height - an explosive full body movement.

    5. Maximum log clean and press - my favourite event.

This would certainly make a change from doing everything against the clock! They even managed to make the squat, deadlift and log speed events at WSM this year and that is just WRONG!
