In my experience, the higher the rep range, the more exercises you can do, the more sets you can do, and the less time you need between sets. I wouldn't be that concerned about overtraining given that he'd be doing reps between 8 and 15. As long as he can complete the routine in under an hour, I wouldn't worry, as long as he's training no more than 3 days a week. If he's thinking about training 4 or 5 days a week, then yes, I'd be concerned.
