You can combine powerlifting, bodybuilding, and strongman principles and workouts together, but like anything in life, if you try to focus on too many things you won't be as good at them as if you focused on just one.
If you look at powerlifters in weight classes other than the heaviest ones, you'll see that most of them are very muscular and defined. The most famous ones, the ones you see on T.V. and in ads, are the ones that lift the most weight - the ones that don't have to control their bodyweight or their diet.
The modern breed of powerlifters like Pudzinowski seem to be very athlehtic and use alot of bodybuilding in their workouts.
He has a great build that is even more accentuated by a low bodyfat level and incredible genetics. A very important factor to remember, however, is that he most likely "chemically assisted".
What would I have to do. Would I need to use mass compound exercises, and then add in shapers etc.?
There's no such thing as shaping exercises. How defined you are depends almost everything to do with your diet and cardio and very little to do with your set and rep scheme.
To accomplish what you want to achieve, the best thing you can do is lift heavy and hard, something like a 5x5 routine, and eat a very clean diet combined with a fair amount of cardio.
