How do you warm up for weighted dips?

Hi,

I am currently bulking, doing 3x8.

If I am doing dips with a 20kg plate, how would you suggest warming up?

i.e. do you think I should do my first set with less weight or should I do a pre-set with just body weight?

Would be interested to know what others do,

cheers,
Rich

If it was me I would do a set with body weight, but I don't warm up for dips. I tend to do them near the end of my workout and don't feel like I need to.

    Cheers mate,

Dips are first in my chest routine, so I think I will stick with a body weight set first.

I suppose I am then doing 4 sets rather than 3 but it is better to be safe than sorry.

    cheers

Personally I do my weighted dips at the mo with 20kg and I tend to do:

    bwx5
    5kgx5
    10kgx5
    15kgx5
    20kgx5x5

I think dips are an exercise where I would rather do more warmups than less because it can (if you go too deep) put your shoulders in a vulnerable position. I don't think the extra work of the warmup sets is a bad thing either.

Bodyweight straight to 20kg would be too much for me personally.

I normally do two warm-ups, one at 60 % & one at 75-80 %. I think it's better to include body weight in the warm-ups. So if you weigh 90 kg and your working sets are BW (90) + 20 kg = 110 kg, 60 % would be 66 kg. Obviously you'd have to use an assist machine for this.

Using Bodyweight might be too heavy for the first warm-up if it's your first exercise....
