How long should it take to clean the house?

As I'm on holidays, I have been given the job of cleaning the house while the missus does a bit of part time work.

It has been done in two stages today and I have only done hall, lounge, dining room, kitchen and stairs so far. Stage three will be bedrooms and bog and dog poo in the back garden.

Including washing dishes, dusting, vacuuming, hand-washing all wood and tile floors and washing kitchen surfaces, splashbacks etc, plus vacuuming up ceiling cobwebs and behind the tv, this has taken just shy of 3.5 hours.

Is this normal?

It seems a lot of work to have the house clean for 10 mins again until I let the dog back in.

Anyone got any good cleaning tips?

Ta.

    I agree with Hapiface lol.

Depends tbh honest mate on whose standards you are expected to rise ( or indeed fall) to, If it was my Mams you`d be there ALL holiday mate make no mistake lmao.

Just a check list for basic cleaning would be, dusting, polishing, washing down walls if applicable, cleaning appliances and brushing scrubbing/hoovering floors, oh and spray some smelly stuff to finish it off.

Always a funny one cleaning  / housework

We are encouraged to accept that Housework / being a housewife is the most gruelling thing you could ever put yourself through ,  ... and if it were a "proper job" it would be akin to being a north sea trawlerman in terms of physical demand , and equally as stressful  -  but expected to turn a blind eye to the fact that EVERY time you turn up un-announced she happens to have her feet up , be on a break , managed a 2 hour phone call or picked up tan .......

So in answer to your question

         ..........Yes dear .

4 hours for me if I'm doing a rush job or just a bog standard weekly clean. Approx 10 if I was to do everything at once....clean windows, inside fridge, inside oven, top of kitchen cupboards and wardrobes, skirting boards washed rather than dusted etc etc

Agreed. I do all mine but I'd be damned if I'd do it all everyday. Hoover 2-3 times a week (I got a new one and somewhat sadly like using it). Dust once a week and so on. That said 3.5 hrs a day... hardly worth worrying about. Still leaves 21.5 to 'study' porn.

    Didn't matter much anyway.
I let the dog in the house and he puked in the kitchen, lounge and dining room after pigging his food in 0.4 seconds.

I'll wash dishes every day and hoover probably once during the week and then on sat, hoover, sweep, wash floors, dust and clean bathrooms, change bedclothes which takes 2-3hrs max.
