With correct diet and training, I'd say fat loss within a month or so, strength in a few weeks, and muscle growth within 3-6 months.
Always hard at first though mate ... but good gaisn to be made.
Sounds to me like you have no routine though, the best thing you can do is get a good one, perhaps post it up here. Believe me it'll make all the difference. I f**ked around with a routine for a year and got nowhere, then went here, got a good one and bang, loads of progess. The next best thing to do is your diet, this is as important, if not more so, than the training itself.
