How many meals do you eat in a day?

Im in the process of mixing things up a little, basically going from the usual 6 meals a day, eating every 2-3 hrs protocol, to eating just 3 meals whilst at the same time im bumping up my protein and cals. Ive had a lot of input on this from Tony Barnes on here and his way of dieting intrigued me!

Who else follows the more mainstream, non b'building 3 square meals? And if you do, how do you find it compares to eating more regularly throughout the day i.e every 2-3hrs?

Thanks!

I'm every 2-3 hours usually getting 7 meals and a PWO shake in.

Due to having commitments 3 days a week a large breakfast/lunch/dinner routine would interest me but I would have to intake like 150 g protein 200 g carbs and 2000 cals a meal??

I eat 3 big meals, breakfast, lunch and dinner, with snacks all through the day, mainly fruit and nuts.

I dont ever have a set amount I just eat when im hungry, sometimes will make a proper meal other times just a yoghurt or piece of fruit.

Would say i tend to have about 3/4 meals through the day then another 5/6 snacks

6 times a day plus post workout Monday to Friday
7 times a day at weekends.

But I call a protein shake a meal - to me a meal is about the nutrition provided no the amount of solid food in front of me.

If you call a shake a meal (which I can't see why you wouldn't), then I eat usually 7 times a day.

Those that stick to the more traditional (bodybuilding layout) style if eating, i.e 6 meals a day, is this for convenience? To allow you to eat more or is it based on research?

    Cheers

I would do it because it allows me to get more calories in overall. No other reason. I find eating smaller portions means I am hungry again within an hour or two, so I can eat more food throughout the day, whereas eating a massive meal will fill me up for nearly the rest of the day and I would find it hard to eat much more thereafter.

I imagine most people do this for similar reasons, because I'm sure the whole theory about only being able to digest a certain amount of protein per sitting is pretty much generally accepted to be defunct now.

Fair point CK, ive always tended to be a 'sheep' when it comes to nutrition in so much as i follow the usual template diets based on bulk, cheap carbs i.e rice, with chicken or minced beef.

Speaking to Tony on here has got me thinking as his way of doing things also makes a lot of sense, basically basing the diet around fats and protein for cals rather than carbs.

Just putting it out there for a bit if debate (Tony, if you are reading, im not questioning your methods lol)

If i'm cutting i'll have 2 main meals and shakes in between.

If bulking as much clean food as i can physically stomach spread across the day, if i miss a few meals for whatever reason i'll mix a bit of junk in with the later meals to pad the cals out a bit... on average, eating clean 7 including shakes.

    If training -

    8 meals ED.

    I count a shake as a meal.

If I consume a large meal I'm very tired.. so small meals all day over the day for myself.

I have six meals..but in that I include my snacks and whey drinks...I find big meals lay on my stomach and I don't feel good so little and often suits me perfectly...I sometimes eat less than this if I just can't hack the last evening meal....so then it would be 5

A protein shake and a glass of milk are entirely different - unless your glass of milk has 50g protein in it like my shakes?

6-7 meals a day, every 2 hours. I dont call a shake a meal unless I add 3 eggs to it. therefor 6-8 meals.
Try to get 40g of protein in each meal, 200g of carbs before 2.00pm.
been working for a long time now, so no need to change.
