How much does a standard bar weigh?

I know the olympic is 20kg but whats a standard?

I'm going to training at the works gym next week.  I've had a look at the bars and I'm pretty convinced they're thinner so must be a standard bar.  I just want to know how to adjust my lifts and what weight to record.

Cheers.

Varies. 10kg with collars is common.

    Standard bars aren't very 'standard'.

Most "body-building" gyms nowadays use the Olympic 20Kg bars (at least the two or three I occasionally visit do). However, at my home gym, my bars are all 20lbs in weight, which is about 9Kg, say 10Kg with collars, and I have been in "old-school" gyms (gyms that tend to use lbs instead of kgs) with the same bars that I have at home. So could be the bars you have seen, which you mentioned seem thinner and lighter than the Olympic bars, are around the 20lbs/10Kg mark.

is there a BS or relevent standard for them?
We have a 6ft barbell in one of the gyms i go to but the thickness has been added to by 0.5" to make up for the weight loss on the collars
