I DONT need grip strength!

4 weeks ago I was really panicking. I had entered the White Cliffs strongman competition, and although I could dead lift 200kg for 6-8 reps, without straps I could only go as heavy as 140kg. So I started on a grip strengthening routine with thick bar holds, plate pinches etc, but only improved the holds by 10kg. At this rate there was no way I could improve my grip on time. Anyway, I was doing dead lifts today and my mate happened to be doing the same workout. He is one of them power lifter type guys that comes all prepared & has all the training accessories. I told him about my grip being weak & he said I should try using chalk on my hands before lift. Did 140kg for 8 reps, 160kg for 8 reps & 180kg for 8 reps, all without straps. Then I tried 200kg & did 7 reps + held bar up for another 20 seconds. So I guess my worries are over. Hail the power of chalk.

Chalk is fine. Tacky is a no-no, and straps may only be worn by the women.

I thought it was but we have seen IFSA move the goal posts on several occasions for some events and people who haven't trained grip have been caught out.

chalk is great. Combine it with a nice locked thumb-grip and we have a winner. Remember to tape the thumb good though as you'll rip lots of skin if your don't.

No doubt chalk is an asset. There also a liquid chalk product out that is much les messy and just as effective. One of the gyms I go is a plosh gym and no powder chalk allowed. [:o)]
