I hear what you're saying. Although my deadlift max is only 172.5kg it's going up all the time, and I'm fairly certain i'll hit 180kg in the next 4 weeks and 200kg by the end of the summer at the very latest.

I've seen my best returns come from having a week off every 3 weeks, doing 3 sets of 6 as dynamically as possible, doing plenty of lower back work, GMs, sldls, and having a good grip.

My problem is my squat, my current max is a 110kg box squat. Did front squats yesterday and maxed out at 80kg. I've tried every routine known to man, 20 rep, low volume, high volume, westside.

If I'm DLing 172.5 and Benching 110 then I should be squatting about 140.

I've switched to using a double overhand grip so my DL is poooooo ATM. I didn't realise the difference would be so HUGE, about 30%. With a mixed grip I can pull 165kg and would be extremely happy with 200kg by end of year.

Tuff, what are the advantages of double overhand grip, I mean why have you changed?

Well, I'd kinda plateau'd on DLs anyway but didn't wanna quit them altogether. So, I decided to go 'back to school' on them. Using less weight with a double overhand allows me to re-learn perfect form whilst increasing grip strength. I've also got a niggling upper back injury (being treated) so full-bore DLing would be risky business.

my grip is not the limiting factor in my DL, my weight+strength are. i weigh 150lbs[ish] and am bulking ATM. but i, like Dr H. have a poor squat in comparision... although that has been remedied somewhat by learning proper form with the help of OHsquats and reduced overall training volume+frequency, cutting down on the CV a bit and having a new moto with regards training [see sig].

    Rob...

First thing - Put on some weight. You know you have to do this already but I dunno quite how important you think this is. To give you an idea, 300kg is 4.4 times your bodyweight as you are now. If you were to pull that tomorrow (I believe) you would hold the all-time world d/l record at your age/weight and one of the 'top whatever' all-time greatest d/l records in the open category at your current weight, even if you were wearing suits/belt/briefs etc., nevermind if you were pulling it raw.

Second thing - Back squats/goodmornings/box deadlifts/rack pulls. Go!
