    It has a larger range of motion and may recruit more muscles to greater degrees...again though, if it's working just keep doing it!

    Anatomical differences from person to person for one. Your benching form also figures in. While I value bench press as an overall upper body size/strength builder, bench does not build a great chest for everyone. I have seen many trainers with a strong bench and relatively flat chests, big front delts and large triceps (myself included). I find that dumbell movements help remove some of the assisting muscles' influence.

    The reason why you are seeing results from the implication of D'bells is that the stimulus is new and different to what the body has been previously exposed too, in time and if you continue with them, the body will adapt accordingly and further changes will be minimal at best.
