I can never stick to a diet.

Hi all,

Right I'm going to lay it all out.

I've tried them all, 5:2, keto, 40:40:20 & I can never seem to do them more than 1or 2 weeks. I always end up having crazy cravings for the things I can't eat.

I've been trainging using the Cube Method for strongman for the last 6 months and I've been eating like a strongman too :-), I've put on to my chub and I need to loose some. I'm only 5'10" and weighting 98kg at the mo, I'm in the mid ti high 20s bf.

I'm trainging 3 days a week, cube method, which is really really demanding, I normall do around 20mins stairs after if I've not burnt myself out.

I need to get down to just under 90kg for my strongman comps, I only want to loose fat. I've worked out my macros for my current weight, and maintained is 3000cal, I'm thinking I need 200g protein?

I need to note, that I do have a massive farting prob when I eat certain carbs, or eat lots of carbs, generally it's high fibre carbs that set me off, grains, beans etc - it not just the notice, they smell like a roadside badger :-0 hope I'm painting a picture :-)

I should also point out, I may do a small Var cycle, this is purely to keep the strength while I'm on a calorie deficit.

I can't do a diet like CDK TKD where I cut out a certain type of food. Can I please have some suggestions for a steady fat loss diet, ratios etc. and how much cardio I should be looking to do? I will still be doing the cube method trainging.

Cheers

Hi - we can help.  But the best advice is that it has to suit you.  So, post up what you're currently typically doing food wise and when you train, etc and we can advise on improvements.

Stop eating all that junk food.  It's easy to lose body weight.  Stop eating all the fats and drinking all the sugars.  Your body is an incinerator as long as you're working out.

I know a few people like this. The main thing is not to try and diet, but to change what you eat. It needs to be something you could see yourself being able to do for the rest of your life.

Make simple changes like swapping sugar for sweetener, use skimmed milk etc.

Learn to make tasty food with good macros ( checkout The Diet Kitchen on youtube)

Dont make dramatic calorie cuts, just start with say a 500 cal deficit. Allow yourself a small treat once a week that pushes your cals for that day up to say 2900 cals

Thanks all, i've been making slow changes and seems to be working. I've actually started to carb cycle and i've found this to work for me at the moment, time will tell :-)

Carb cycling is a very good choice for pretty much all goals, and it also allows a pretty normal eating pattern too. Keep going mate.

What are the things you crave?  I've been experimenting with low carb alternatives to typically high carb foods, especially desserts.

I get my cravings late at night. I'm a carb fiend, so its normally things like toast, bagels.
The prob is by 9pm i'm had my last meal and used up my cals, then by 10.30 i'm carb craving.

May-be I should go to be earlier

Don't cut out whole food groups, then you shouldn't crave anything  Also, denying yourself 'everything' is setting yourself up for a fall. No-one's indestructible

My evening meal pretty much always contains a shed load of vegetables, particularly leafy greens.  If I'm craving after it, a square of high cocoa chocolate usually does the trick.  Liqourice tea is also good if you want something sweet.
Then, quark or strained yogurt before bed.

Yes to going to bed if you know you're going to hit the carbs.
Alternatively cycle those carbs so the lion share is in the evening. That's what I do so now never go to bed hungry.
Up 12hrs now and carbs have been 2 protein bars and 2 apples.

Thats a good idea! I've just added in a exta meal for 10 pm, adjusted my macros accordingly, whicvh will allow my 4 pieces of toast. Should sort those cravings out :-)

Ok cool, just keep your deficits small and manageable.
I have a sedentary job so low carbing during the day is easier than if I was grafting. Just tweak things as you go until you find the timings that suit.

Dont Diet, dont eliminate food groups and find something that you can see yourself doing for the rest of your life.
An IIFYM approach to eating is a pretty good one, as nothing is really off the menu and gives you some flexibility to work in a bit of what you fancy every now and then. Its not an excuse to eat junk all day but might be a good option for you
