I just made an omelette.

And it was bleedn horrible, chewy as.  I cracked open 3 eggs put a drop of water in and put some butterly in.  Had to put it in wholemeat toast.

Now, can you tell me how to make it better please.

Anyway, that's my protien intake better and I intend to keep it up.

Many thanks as usual.

If it was chewy you over cooked it.

Dont put water in it. Water and oil do not mix when cooking.

The butter/oil is trying to fry it the water is trying to boil it.

Yeah, seemed odd to add the 2, either a splash of milk or nothing. I usually make a batch of 2-3 egg omelettes as they take no time to cook, one large one is better off being done like a fritata

Thanks.  Will try milk tomorrow.  I quickly typed in how to cook a plain omelette and the site said that water would make it fluffy.

I know i am a bit 'odd' as i quite like a chewy omelette, never liked a runny one.

I prefer to do frittatas. Same as an omelette but instead of flipping or folding it, finish it under the grill

I use butter, a splash of milk and some seasoning. Then cover it with cheese (e.g. extra mature cheddar, pecorino, parmagianno) and grill to melt!

I think you are supposed to use water, like to fill mine with cheese and ham.

Never heard or seen a chef make an omlette with water don't see the point either for the reasons mentioned about. Get the eggs scramble them, add black pepper with chilli in it and some frozen creamed spinach put all in a pan then boom your on!!

Really, one search showed me chefs dont use cream/ milk and some dont use water at all.

All the milk would do is thicken the egg.

The secret ingredient to a great omelete is two or three splashes of Tabasco sauce. You don't actually notice it when you add it but if you forget to add it you know it immediately.

6 eggs, tin of tuna, 100g of spinach, chilli, cheese, make it like a frittata, job done.

I found separating the yolks before hand and cooking the whites first the best way to cook scrambled eggs or an omelette.. Ensures all the whites are cooked without cooking the yolks all the way through..

Also, no milk or water, just butter

I find eggs need carbs. The texture just isn't nice without them. Soft things need to be accompanied by something with a bit of bite.

If I'm making an omlette it has to have fried potatos in it.
If it's scammbled or fried then it has to be between bread or potatoes.
I also make a lot of egg fried rice which is really cheap and so nice with good seasoning.
