I wanna be BIG!!!

And I mean Ronnie Coleman BIG, but am I just hoping for something I cant achieve? I have been told by a BB'er who has been in the game for over 20 years, that I dont have the genetics to become that big, could somebody explain what this means? My stats are:

Height = 5'9"
Weight = 150 lbs
Body Frame = Medium
Body Fat = 10-15%

My diet is:

9.00am
3 eggs scrambled on 2 slices of toast
weight gain shake
glass of fresh orange

10.30am
Tin of Tuna in Mayonaise in beween 2 slices of bread
Handful of peanuts
banana
weight gain shake

12.30pm
Beef, Yorkshire pud and gravy
carrots and peas
eight gain shake
yoghurt

3.00pm
Turkey breast sandwich
apple
weight gain shake
glass fresh orange

5.30pm
half tin of corned beef
2 hash browns
beans and cheese
weight gain shake
yoghurt

9.00pm
2 weetabix in skimmed milk
weight gain shake
peanuts

If anybody could help me, that would be great!

Thanks,
Jonno.

Eating weetabix isn't going to make you look like Ronnie Coleman sadly, if it was that easy we'd all be doing it. Ronnie Coleman is a one in a million genetic freak, if you had the potential to be Ronnie Coleman big you would already be big and muscular now without ever having lifted a weight. He's also been weight lifting for a number of years and taking steroids for a number of years.

If you aim too high you'll give up after a few months becuase you're disappointed. You can have a good physique though, one that makes you stand out in a crowd. Read Cashmans guide for beginners and you're on your way. Your diet looks ok but too many weight gain shakes imo

how are you gaining off that diet jonno? And what is the weight gain shake, is it shop bought Progain/N-large2 sort of thing, or something you make yourself?

TBH I wouldn't try and set my standards by everyone else. Just be the best you can be. In this case it means eating big and lifting big over many years. If you want to be a pro then sacrifice, dedication over a long time are required. I wouldn't even contemplate juicing for the first few years so that you can achieve your natural potential first then if that's not enough then take the next step into the dark-side. What's your current routine?

Ever thought about why you're not 5ft 2" or 6ft 5" tall? Answer is simple. Your height is determined by your genetics, (assuming of course you don't starve yourself during your childhood). Just in the same way, the maximum size your muscles can acheive is determined by your genetics. For example:

Muscles grow due to the increase in thickness of the bundles of muscle fibres in your muscles. Your genetics determine how many muscle fibres you have, each of which can only get so big.. so that limits the ultimate size of your muscles.

There are a lot of other factors too that determine just how big you can make your muscles grow, but again all of them are genetically determined. Just like everything that is genetically determined, those factors all vary from individual to individual.

Before you ask about about steroids. Well steroids pretty much only overcome one of your genetic limitations, ie the stimulus for muscle growth within your body. They can't overcome other physical limitations of your body. So again, even with the aid of steroids.. you ultimate size/strength etc is limited by your genetics.

How do you know you've got crap genetics? Just because some guy in the gym says you have don't make it a fact. Being skinny doesn't necessarily have anything to do with you're ultimate potential.

If you eat like a horse and remain thin.. that could just mean that you have a quick metabolic rate.. it isn't a determination of the kind of factors that would limit your ultimate size.

What I'm trying to say is... don't assume your genetics are crap just because you think your current build is. Plenty of body builders started off thin. Of course you'll never be thick set if your bone structure is slim. But from a BB point of view that's a good thing as smaller bones/hands/head etc all add to the impression of size.

Like cashman says.. just work on being the best that YOU can be.

Well I have been told I am quite strong considering I havent been weight lifting for long. My Father is about the same height but has more weight and my mother is quite small in height but is a plump build (not fat not skinny). My Mothers father is quite BIG in weight but again not tall. My fathers father is Quite tall and really BIG built.

    Thanks,
    Jonno.

I think Mr Gainer was after more numerical values, like what are your 1 rep maximums in the deadlift/bench/squat, or other lifts.

U need squats and deadlifts. And squats should be done before any cardio, since for bulking they're about the most important exercise around. dont overdo the volume/sessions a wk.

Some very sound advice from the guys. Looking at that routine it will limit your growth potential as, as mentioned, you need squats and deadlifts. To gain mass you need to limit your cardio so that as many clean calories as possible are used for muscle development. Read my beginners sticky. Many have tried my 4 day split and gained well and as recommended by Ice mach switch to a 5x5 style routine (I've listed a sample in my beginners sticky at the end of the guide on page 1 to get you going).

You will have no idea as GTM says what your genetic potential is until you have trained for at least a good couple of years with excellent diet, training and rest. Your gains in this time will be significant if you get it right and you can see then how well you have gained muscle. It will give you a clearer picture of your overall potential for further growth. Good luck bro.

Jonno182 - Ive just read all the above replies, some are really good. Just thought Id say:
Im 6'2 and only last year I was under 11st, which was not good for my height!
My parents and grand parents arn't as tall as me and they're all slim which didnt give me much hope but this past year Ive really concentrated on what I want and Im getting somewhere, to the point where people I see evry few weeks are noticing a difference.

Point being.....Dont set you goals to high (as mentioned in another reply) and you'll get what you want!

Loads of people told me Id always be skinny (god i hate that word) which just sucks but Ive proved them wrong!

Theres a way around everything, you just gotta find it!
