ITT: ask a mod/admin a question

I just wondered how the admins and mods feel about MT as a forum now that they play a large part in it's upkeep: does it still offer the same pleasure and attraction as it did when you first joined? Do you still log on for the joy like myself and the other General whores or does it feel more of a necessary chore?

I'm sure I'll have more inane questions, please post yours!

Unaffiliated.

Pfft, I would f.ucking hate to be a Mod! Seems like such a thankless job. I like to browse MT at my leisure but being a Mod means it becomes more like work because you are required to browse MT and look at all the threads no matter how lame they are! I am asking because I genuinely can't see the appeal of being a Mod so I am curious as to why people do!

That's not the case. I mod diet but visit it infrequently. Also, you get a sense of which threads are likely to need 'work' so can focus more on those.

Do you still log on for the joy like myself and the other General whores or does it feel more of a necessary chore?

I still enjoy reading and posting as you can tell by my post count, but yeah it can take some of the fun out of it at times, for example as a member if someone breaks the rules, gets abusive, whatever, you'd probably just ignore it, as a mod you feel you have to do something about it, which can be boring

My question : How many times has essex chris applied to be moderator?

Not Chris that I know of lol, but yes, people have applied over the years! Sometimes with long essays on why they would be a good choice! Maybe that's how it happens on other forums, that's not the process here though, you get asked by the other mods after they've all discussed it, and then you either accept or decline. The mods and owners will get together and decide if there's an area of the forum that needs more mods and who might be suitable. (We've only had a very few decliners ever, but do have some who's post count rapidly drops off when they realise that being a mod can take some of the fun out of posting as mentioned earlier! And we have some ex-mods too who've resigned for their own reasons)

Yep, and on the other hand some creepy weird ones too! Obviously not posting details lol

Why did you want to become a Mod?

I never wanted to become a mod, I was surprised when I was asked. I think most people are. But why did I accept? MT was by far my favourite training related forum on the net at the time, and the mod team were very helpful. So after thinking about it I said yes as I wanted to be part of that. Back then I used to post a lot of studies and explanations for things, get into debates about the way things worked, ask detailed questions about stuff, which is all part of the job of a mod, to help and discuss with other members. To be fair though I didn't fully know what being a mod meant, don't know if I do even now lol. I think it means something different for different people. For me a mod is a member who helps out with the running of the forum. On some other forums I see that mods consider themselves as completely seperate from the members, which would not be for me

@drab - I think you seem like one of the most 'member like' mods on here if you know what I mean, you seem to be comfortable acting and saying as you wish, some of the mods come across as being more metered with their words and topics which must be a pain for them. I also cant think of many occasions when you have been 'the punisher'

looks like a thankless job to me, I wouldn't like to do it so I dont know why the likes of Chris seem desperate for the job
