In the shade of Lara Croft?

Hi everybody, I'm writing down my new journal somewhere else and I thought that maybe you too would find it funny........
Here it is:

Okey, time for a new journal, I got new goals, new hopes and plans to conquer and again I'll share with you my training, diet and of course moods and thoughts... (cannot stop those![8)] )

For those who don't know me: I'm Nina, 29 years old, live in Southern France, hyper active, way too tall for any serious mass building, live in a gym, love my dog and eat tons of pink marshmellows........

I've been sportive all my life, started weight training seriously about 3 years ago (but otherwise been lifting for more than ten years!), done several World Cup sable competitions and also 6 fitness/figure competitions (I even won the French United Finals 2002 ).

5'11'' tall and last weekend the scale said 155lbs and 14% body fat (but I've probably changed that with all the popcorns and stewed apples I've been eating tonight!! [xx(]) .

I train all the time....... Every single day and when I don't train I'll run, dance, jump or crawl around on the floor chasing my dog. "Always on the move" would be a perfect description.
I also snack all the time, but it's quite rare that I snack on really bad food. Never any junk (pizza, fried food or bad fat) and no meat, fish or dairy products (my protein sources are chicken, soy products, eggs and protein shakes + barres) .
(Hmmmmm but it does happen I eat my husband's chocolate, eat anis cookies or some sorbet!!)
I don't count calories (except before a competition) but I need somewhere around 2500 daily and probably eat 2200-2700.

I'm crazy about trying new training things so I've been doing very heavy weights, low weights and 100 of reps, circuit trainings, power lifting routines etc etc
Right now I'm working on the next coming routine who'll be a mix of bench press powerlifting, plyometrics and body weight exercises...... (I'm a certified Personal trainer and all my comp preps and training routines, I've always succeeded in doing them myself) (BUT I can always learn new things from others and that's excactly why I like these work out journals so much!!)
I'll write down my new program as soon as it's finish.

I don't have any plans of doing any other Fitness competitions right now, but I'm definitely not finish with the competition life (I'll tell you about that later).

Well, this is the start of my new (and third) journal (I called it Lara Croft since three different persons have been calling me this name in just two days.... "You look like you're always ready to pull up your guns!" [:p] )

Woke up early this morning, feeling fine. Took my amino acids, prepared my home made protein bread (is in the oven now), made Raspberry jelly for later (bought it in the UK! Lol we don't have that in France!! [:P]), drinking herbal tea and just ate a small protein bar.
I need to fix some stuff this morning but I'll throw in a 45mins weight training circuit as well. (I just came home from a travel abroad yesterday so I'm still feeling a little tired. This week I'll focus on some circuit and cardio and then start my new work out program next week)

This morning weight training ended up to be:

    Lower back extensions: 5x10
    Bench Press: 1x20 1x12 1x8 4x6 (45kgs)
Lunges: 5x20 on each leg and with 20kg on my back
    Leg raises: 5x20
    Bent over DB raises: 5x10

That's it. It took me 40 mins.
I'll do 3-4 more of those this week and focus on training all body parts.
I'll go out running later today and do some stretching and more abs tonight.
Now I just ate a big spoon of Glutamine, drinking herbal tea again and impatiently waiting for my protein bread to get finish cooking!! [:p][:p]

Yesterday didn't turn out to be a good day.......

It started quite good though, lots of energy and a great work out but the problem was my diet.
    Just toooo many carbs!!
I ate all my bread, jelly, fruits, cookies and even some rice cakes!
[color:red] I'm not really worried about the total calorie intake but the fact of feeling sooooo bad, bloated and retaining tons of water
The worse thing was that I was soooo tired last night as well!
[color:green] Normally I'm tired in the end of the day because of low carb intake but this was the excact opposite; I was tired and VERY lazy from the blood sugar raising and falling.... [B)]

Conclusion: High carb diets isn't the right way to fuel the body!!![xx(]

Today is a new day and I want tostop eating for my pleasure but go back and eat for my body. [:p]

Hi there Ozzy, thanks for stopping by and Matt, it's quite funny with the Lara Croft thing....; the very first person I saw in France -when coming home from the UK, called me Lara Croft...... I really don't know why?..... Nobody has ever called me that before! lol

Anyway, yesterday was better than the day before........
Still not the very best, but better.
[color:purple] (I don't see any obvious reason why I should NOT be gaining a ton of fat..... Okey I train and do my cardio as usual, but I've stopped the fat burners (don't see why I should continue) and I'm still eating too many carbs.... Maybe I should start getting more serious? I mean, not that I completely do whatever but maybe I should fix a date again for a competition, photo shoot or something else so I'm forced to stay on the track? [}:)] )

I went out running with my dog for the first time in a week (except on a treadmill in London!) Ooooooooh my dog was the happiest one on earth (I DID go out biking with her Monday and Tuesday though! ) and for me it was great too!
[color:red] (I don't know about you but for me, running is the very best therapy who exists...... I get soooo many ideas and find solutions to annoying problems when I run.... I don't run with a disc man or anything (maybe I should?) but I just run, look at the trees, try not to step on my dog jumping [:p] and feel the wind against my skin... Couldn't find a better moment in peace to resolve world problems  ) [color:brown] (By the way that's why I ran so incredible much when I was feeling down 2-3 months ago.... It really helps!)

I did my shoulders last night and this morning I just finished doing pull ups [color:green] (I did 16 wide hands pull ups!!! 1x4 and 4x3 Quite happy about that and I remember when I couldn't do one single... ) .
I got a new annoying problem; I need to keep my upper body work outs down to 30-45 mins or I'll get too much pain in my wrists and elbows......

I already take chondroitine (every single day for 2 1/2 years now). It's okey, I just have to stay careful.

I went out dancing last night........ Went to bed around 2.30am (after having taken some GABA) and up at 8am...... Not a surprise that I'm tired....
What I did last night that was very unusual is to drink a gin fizz !!!! Whheeeeew it has been very long the last time I touched any alcohol (I can't even remember) but what I did was mixing the stuff with mineral water and ice cubes and I drank only the half...... I still got drunk though and the dancefloor become my sacred territory for the rest of the night.

Right now I'm just tired...... My legs hurt (especially the calves) but I don't really know if it's from the dancing or my leg training last night [}:)]
My back is a little sore as well from the pull ups.
Now maybe I should take a little day off?!!!
(oooh I forgot I promised a friend to go out rollerblading this afternoon!!!) [:p]

My legs are killing me........ [}:)][}:)]

Now what have I done for my legs in the last couple of days (since comming back from the UK last Monday)?
-2-3 hours of mountain biking (I would never do this before something important since I'm always sooooo close of breaking a leg or something..... The wilder the better!! )
-Running with doggy (only 5.5k thou!)
-5 sets of 20 weighted lunges
    -side squats with weights
    -100 hamstring raises
-more cardio on stairmaster and the elliptical trainer
-wild salsa dancing for almost three hours Thursday night
-one hour of abs and glutes training at a lady's place
-boxing/kicking like a mad woman and lots of heartless stretching (I hate stretching but one HAS to do it!!!)

Aie, and I was suppose to do more lunges today.....
I was also suppose to go out running before breakfast but I felt my legs aching before even stepping out of bed.

Now I just opened the gym but nobody is there yet. I want to do my max in bench press today. I've been following a program for the last 4 weeks and I'll start a new exercise routine from Monday morning SO I need to determinate my maximum. I'm curious to see if I've become any stronger.
I have to wait until somebody come training....... since I'll never try to do my max without a spotter saving me if I'll need it.
Patience Nina, patience (oh that's my very biggest weakness by the way; I'm NOT patient!!!!)

I'M DARN HAPPY!!!!!! I JUST DID BENCH PRESS 1 REP WITH 60KGS!!!!
I couldn't do a second rep though BUT just to make sure, I did a second set of one repetition with another 60kgs.....

Now I would never be able to do that 3 months ago.......

RE: In the shade of Lara Croft? 2003/08/24 22:15:40 (permalink)
Now I've been thinking........ [:0][^][8)] and I have made up my mind to try a new system; to do weekly exercise routines and fix new goals for each week. Let's see how that'll work:

Next week (from tomorrow -Monday morning)
I'll like to try only to do body weight exercises so my plan sounds like this:
    5 exercise days
    1) Pull and push ups wide grip/hand only + jumping squats
    2) Standing push ups, hyper extensions, leg raises
    3) Jumping lunges + jumping on step
    4) Pull and push ups close grip/hand
    5) Standing push ups, hyper extensions, abs, dips and side squats

Next to that I'll do a lot of stretching and cardio:
    - 1-2 hours of boxing (actually more kicking and working technic)
    - 2-3 times out running (probably a lot more since the World Championship of Athletisme is going on right now in Paris and I get a real kick out of looking at those extremely fast running athletes so I feel the urge of running a lot more!!) [:p]
    - 1 hour of Squash
    - 3-4 hours of biking
    - roller blading
    - some cardio on the stairmaster or/and elliptical?

I'll give you an update next Sunday and I'll write down each day the number of reps and sets.

My diet will be as always (clean and healthy) but I want to make sure of a couple of things:
    - eat at least two REAL meals a day with A LOT of veggies
    - eat fish at least once a week (I don't like fish! [}:)] ) and
    - NOT forget to drink my protein shake before bed.......

I'll start with creatine tomorrow as well (creatine and amino acids the first thing in the morning works fine for me! )

    I guess that's it!
    Now let the week begin!

Oh by the way, nope nada niet don't worry, I'm NOT over training by doing (or in any way forcing myself to do) all those cardio activities...... It's already a normal part of my day so my body isn't getting more stressed, chocked or whatever. (Actually honestly, I'm more worried about not doing any weight training!)
I DON'T want to overtrain so if I feel my body getting tired, then I'll just take a day off!!

RE: In the shade of Lara Croft? 2003/08/26 07:09:37 (permalink)
Yesterday I did 60 wide hand push ups and 19 wide hand pull ups........
I felt rather bad of not training any more but today my triceps and back (even my abs) are sore...
(By the way I've noticed a huge difference in doing "normal fast "push ups and sloooowly ones concentrating on contracting hard all your muscles.....)

I only did 2 sets of jumping squats since I then got interrupted by the phone, had to work and then had to go somewhere else...... I'll do some more today.

Cardio; I did 20 mins of stairmaster and HIIT twice (15 and 20 mins) on the bike (it was quite funny! )

Diet; no I didn't eat all the veggies I was suppose to but I ate a lot of fruit AND I even ate some fish.

Can't be that bad for the first day, huh?!!! [8)][:p]

It's a little bit strange....... It's only Wednesday and I haven't even been doing anything today (but 20mins stairmaster and 10mins of biking this morning) and honestly I don't feel like I'm doing much BUT still I got sore muscles all over.......... [:I][:(!]

Yesterday I only did 5x10 hyper extensions, 5x20 leg raises on inclined bench and 3 sets x 10reps of standing push ups (half ones!!!)
Okey I did a little bit of cardio as usual but not more than that.
I take my creatine, amino acids, glutamine, vitamines, minerals, chondroitine and protein shakes (AND I definitely eat enough!) so why do I have sore muscles?........ (especially in the neck area but I guess that's from the standing push ups)
    [}:)][}:)][}:)][}:)][}:)]

I want to go out running now but I don't know if it's a good idea.......

I DO NOT want to overtrain but I cannot see how I should? (and I don't want to rest!! [:(!][B)][B)][B)] )

I played squash yesterday...... Funny thing to chase this little black ball flying around threathening to hit you in your face (actually the ball didn't hit me but the my partner hurt me with his racket!!!)
I won........ It was close but I still got it!

Actually I didn't think I was able to play since my elbows are hurting. (I got a darn problem with my joints...... It comes and goes but everything depends on what sort of work I've been doing. Yesterday I did 17 pull ups (three sets) but with the hands quite close together. It's great to feel how "easy" it is to do pull ups now comparing to before but just the way of turning the wrists to hold the bar is giving me sooo much pain. I can do one or twho sets but apparently three is too much....... [B)][V][V][xx(] )

I did 50 jumping lunges as well and some biking and climbing (Sunday I'll write down everything I've done during this week)
Today I feel a little sore (in my butt from the squash!! [:0] ) and my elbows joints are still a little sore. I would like to do some standing push ups though..... [:o)]

I always take my amino acids (mixed in a glass of water) before any early morning cardio. Right now I take creatine as well.

Thanks for stopping by young lady!

Don't you just hate it when you feel like eating something but just don't know what?!!!
I'm NOT on a diet but honestly I don't feel like eating something sugary or bad.
I woke up early this morning, and normally I'm always soooo hungry but funny enough not today...... Took my aminos, drank a tea, went to the bank, came home, drank more tea and now I just had three chicken slices with a couple of rice cakes.
Well maybe that sounds like a big enough breakfast but for me it definitely isn't (and I use to eat my biggest meal of the day in the mornings!)
Now I'm drinking more tea wondering what I can eat more...... (more chicken slices? An orange? some almonds? Hard boiled eggs? a protein bar? A green pepper?.......)

Yesterday night I was suffering huge while desperately trying to do standing push ups. I succeeded in doing some BUT I must admit that they stay "half ones" (I tried several times to lower myself more but then I couldn't get back up!!! [}:)] )

I want to do them, I want to do them, I want to do them!!!!!!!!!!!!

As I promised, it's Sunday late evening and this is what I did during the week:

(The "seperating" of sets is on different times of the day or different day. Sets x repetitions)

    Body weight exercises:

Push ups hands wide apart: 6x10
    Pull ups wide hands: 1x4 4x3 1x3
    Jumping squat (with 10kg/22lbs DBs): 2x12 1x12
Leg raises on inclined bench: 5x20
    Lower back hyper extensions: 5x10 2x10 3x10
Standing push ups (with the knees on the biceps curl bench! [:0] ): 3x10 2x10
    Jumping lunges: 5x10

    Push ups hands close: 4x10
Pull ups hands close: 1x7 2x5 (I had major elbow pain for hours after! [:o)] ) 1x2 1x5
Jumping on step feet together: 2x10 2x10
1/2 standing push ups (too darn weak to do whole ones! [}:)] )i]: 1x3 1x2 2x1
One hand push ups on bench: 3x10
    Crunches: 1x60
    Dips: 1x10
    Sumo squats with DBs: 3x10
    Side squats: 5x10

    Cardio:

    Stairmaster: 20+10+20+20= 1 hour 10 mins
Mountain biking: 10+20+20+10+30+20+30+10+30= 3 hours (HIIT twice)
Some boxing (not enough!! [B)] )
    Squash 1 hour (I won! )
And out running with doggy twice (11K)(did some nice sprints -errr I discovered that my long legs actually can make me run quite fast! [:I] )
    _______________________________________________

That's it, that was my training. What could I have done better? Probably do more abs (but I hate working abs!)
I didn't really work my arms or calves directly as well....
I didn't do the boxing I wanted to, I didn't go out rollerblading and I didn't do anything on the elliptical trainer.
On the contrary I haven't counted all the dancing, cleaning, gardening and walking I've done......

    Now what about my diet?

I promised to eat fish at least once; I did.
I promised to eat more veggies; I did.
I promised not to forget my protein shakes, and well I drank them :ooo:

What baaaad things have I been eating?
Fruit sorbets....... Yummy and lots of Swiss herbal candies! :p
Nothing else to confess I think....... Oh I was invited to a Hawaii party yesterday night and I drank a half glass of punch (I really don't like Rhum but I felt it unpolite to refuse.... [:0] )

This week has felt like some kind of vacation from the gym..... [8)] I don't really feel like having done much but in the same time I still feel the sore muscles from the training yesterday.
