Injured while on a bulk

Hi Guys,

Bit of a back story. I am 6"1' 198lbs not sure about BF and am following the 5/3/1 program. Anyway been on a "clean bulk" consuming around 3200 calories a day with a 40/30/30 split. It's been working quite well for me I have increased in all my lifts and lost some BF.

The problem I have now is that I dislocated a rib and can't train (i reckon for 2 weeks) so I have two options. I can cut back on my calories and do some light exercises and cardio, or I keep the same calorie intake and increase the cardio.

Can't decide which.

Drop the cals a bit mate. Keep the protein where it's at and only do the cardio if its possible without aggravating the injury.

surely cardio is burning cals? if you are bulking you want as many cals in without burning them off. what's the point of eating 500cals over maintenance and then burning off 600 with 3 cardio sessions? you'll be back in deficit ie a cut

    just my thoughts mate

edit: - i'd go see a chiropractor if i were you they'll put you right & you could be back in the gym in a week - during your down time i'd eat just over maintenance but keep it clean & rest yourself

Cheers for the replies guys. I think I have decided to just take a week of complete rest while keeping the cals, but not the macros the same.

In the meantime I will use the downtime to try and get rid of all the other little pains I have. Go to a chiropractor and get a deep tissue massage.

If anything, I'd up the protein and essential fats, maintain or increase the calories where you can and light exercise if possible - you'll find after a week 'off' or at low intensity that you may return even stronger.
