Insects making my life hell

I must have been bitten about 300 times over the last week

I now look like a chicken pox sufferer .... unfortunatley my little boy appears to have inherited my "animal magnetism" too ,and he is getting bitten all the time too

I have tried repellant sprays , eating marmite 20 times a day , but nothing seems to work

I am sick of it ! anyone got any suggestions ?

Yes there is one absolute solution which will for sure help. Mosbar - and the only google I oculd find for it was a pubmed study http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?cmd=Retrieve&db=PubMed&list_uids=1664850&dopt=Abstract

It is very cheap, but there are problems:
    1) You have to lather yourself in it after a shower and leave it on, so you smell odd
    2) It makes your skin dry
    3) You cant get it in the UK!

My Dad lives in Zimbabwe and he brings it back - he's back on Tuesday so hoping he has brought some

You never get bitted if you have this on though

James - From what i can gather the active ingredient in mosbar is DEET - which is available over here

Do you know if it is simply a case of the DEET being effective - or something in the way that it is applied via the mosbar that makes a difference

I best read the study I suppose !

Deet is excellent stuff but needs to be pretty concentrated to be extremely effective. My sister bought some in Australia which we used when we went to Tobago a couple of years ago and it was the only thing that kept sandflies off my hubbie.

I think the blighters must be hungry this year as I've been bitten a few times and they don't usually bother me

Yes I've heard that too, although I prefer to just drink it and then let it sweat out through my pore's , joking aside I never get bitten on holiday and I've been told this is a factor

While were talking about insects , I found a bloody wasp nest in my hedge yesterday , anyone know how to get rid of it ? the council will remove it but they want £72 ! I thought about pouring petrol on it and setting it alight but I can see my whole hedge going up and me getting charged with arson

No biggie like, there are a lot worse things for you than using steroids, I mean I probably shouldn't have been smoking crack or getting into bar fights at your age TBH  - drab4

What ever you do be very carefull, there can be over 10000 wasps in there and you don't want to annoy them. There are certain things you spray on the nest at night but i'm not sure how safe they are.

I'm not sure mate - if it is deet - then you need to check how it's applied. The mosbar is simply a bar of soad which you lather into wet skin and it dries and sticks

deet is good you can get it from camping shops, need at least 50% deet but i'd go for 75% or even 100% but the 100% can only go on skin as it can melt plastic its seriously strong stuff I used it in the amazon in Peru

lmao, pagan are you sure it's a nest?. Last summer we had what I though was a nest in a large climbing plant that grew all over the side of my house (similar to ivy). Threre were wasps in and out of it all day and the whole thing just buzzed really loudly. I got the council round to get rid and he said it wasn't a nest, they were just attracted to some plants and bushes and were more active in the hot weather.
After a few days when the weather cooled they just went. Just a thought mate

LMAO Dr Z. Pagan, there's some foam spray you can buy from DIY stores. You do it first thing in morning or later in the evening when most will be back in the nest, coat it and leave it. We had one over our front door last year

I haven't been bitten by a mozzie or any insect for that matter for as long as i can remember now. I hear them buzzing round in my room at night but nope they just don't like to bite me Don't eat onion or garlic, i think i just give off a king of the jungle type odour which puts the fear of god into them all
