Introduction

Hi everyone,

I've been lurking for a few days and have finally found the courage to jump in and say hi

I'm 27, married, and have a son who is eight next week. I've been doing weights since April last year, and my body has transformed amazingly. I train at home as gym membership is financially not an option. I'm currently on three day split routine, I'll post it one day when I'm brave enough, which is giving me good results - as I've never had any professional help or training, you may well end up ripping it to shreds!

Right now I'm focusing more on fat loss, though there doesn't look like much to go now - can't give a percentage as I have no way of measuring it.

My diet is dairy free as dairy really doesn't do me much good - I keep starches to a minimum, have loads of fruit and fruit juice, loads of veg and pulses, and loads of chicken. I avoid sugar as much as possible, though occasionally I do give in and munch through a few doughnuts.... [:I]

My regular cardio is done with the help of my dog - I cycle about six miles on most days; it does me good and Zeus loves it.

Anyways... that's me - looking forward to chatting with you

    Welcome to MT sis!

You're sure to get great advice on any aspect of your diet, routine. It may be an idea to post a typical days diet in the diet forum for us to critique and offer suggestions.

Hi and thanx again for all the welcomes :)

I've run into a bit of a hiccup with posting my routine..... most of the exercises I do are things that I've read about on various sites, in books/magazines - I gave them names that would help me know what they were, without having to look them up all the time - but my names for them won't help you know what I'm talking about.... my routine is a three day split - day one upper body, day two legs, day three abs/trunk/chest. Until last week, days two and three were the other way around, but I felt like I needed more recovery time between them so switched. I generally do three days on, then two off – but sometimes have more rest days than I’d like due to time restraints.

I’ve had no formal training or instruction of any kind; this was something that I started just for me. My initial aim was to tone up and lose body fat - the strength aspect had never entered my head…. but when I noticed my strength increasing, I liked it :D I bought myself a second hand multi-gym in March 2002 – started using it, following the suggested exercises, in mid April. For the first six(ish) weeks I showed willing with a full body workout every other day…. but then, I decided to stop ‘playing’ and start really working – so I started to push myself harder and harder, and soon realised that I was really enjoying it. I started researching more – I wanted to get to the point where I could devise my own routine with some confidence. Which I did, but then it got too easy (very quickly to be honest), so I revised it and have continued adapting it as I have progressed.

I must be doing something right though – because I have achieved my original aim and then some. My weight is down by around 28 – 30lbs, and my waist measurement is down by 7ins – my muscles are a lot bigger, and I am definitely much stronger and more confident – and healthier.

My legs, knees really, posed a problem for a while as they suddenly became very painful. I kept at it though, and did what I could without using my knees too much. After several months of physiotherapy and ultrasound treatment, I reached the stage where I could start gentle leg exercises. My leg workout is still made up of mostly the strengthening exercises from physiotherapy – I’m now doing them in sets, and have added weights for some of them – but am not taking the risk of going back to squats, etc. In honesty, I’ve noticed more results from what I’m doing now, than I noticed before – so will most likely stick with it.

Before each workout, I do several minutes of stepping to warm up before stretching, and I cycle about six miles on most days (best way of exercising my dog), and on the days when I don’t cycle, I walk the same sort of distance. I took up kickboxing and loved it, but can’t do that now because of my knees – but I will get back to it one day.

One thing that I’m encountering more and more that is mildly annoying – clothes; they just don’t seem to make them to fit girls with muscles.

There are some good routines posted in the training section. Why don't you also start a journal so that members can help you out in greater detail? Great to have you on board. Like Steel Girl, I too had read your site and must have stayed on it for about an hour and still didn't finish, hence my reason for saying you have many friends here, no prejudice, no racism, no sexism (well most of the time), etc. We are all here for one thing and that is to grow them there muscles!!
