Is Eastenders past it's sell by date?

Is Eastenders (and maybe other British soap dramas) past it's sell by date and no longer relates to real life in anyway.Stopped watching it about 10 years ago when some of the story lines were getting silly&boring.Whilst at family Christmas dinner they were watching it(so I had to endure it) and from that episode it seemed to have gotten even worse.Maybe the internet is killing off quality television and making it less relevant to real/modern life.

I don't watch Eastenders but I always watch the xmas special.

    I find it quite entertaining.

Never been a regular watcher but as my gf watches them i know the gist of things.

They make me chuckle. For example on 1 short cobbled working class street ( corrie) they have
    a gym
    a mechanics
    a factory
    a hair salon
    taxi rank
    chippy
    pub
    Corner shop
    Restaurant

And possibly more. Its ****ing ridiculous.

I cringe when see anyone from another country see them and think it represents british people

Watched it since it started, though more sporadically in recent years. Still think it's the best soap, particularly when it comes to big cliffhanger story-lines, and the Xmas episodes are always belters. Having said that I think they should get rid of the Carter family. Never found them convincing, particularly Mick and Linda.

Dreadful, relies on regurgitating **** misery-filled storylines as it's simple to do and pass off as drama. Nothing but men pandering to impossibly irritating women.

I find eastenders particularly funny as they have illusions of grandeur, lots of dramatic watching from across the square and ludicrous monologues where they  say **** like "never seen such rain as I saw that night, like the sky was falling down on us"; like Max Payne dialogue.

Coronation Street is probably the best of a very bad lot. They have a couple of vaguely amusing characters at least, like Steve McDonald who actually has decent comic timing.

It is as it's always been, it's a soap drama, I never really compare most things I watch on TV to real life.

If you love something let it go,if it comes back to you it's yours,if it doesn't it never was.

I watch no soaps at all these days except for The Simpsons which is far more realistic.

Used to watch it in the '80's. Don't watch soaps now but as above I had to sit through an hour of it on xmas day. Surprised to see Nick and Dot Cotton still in it. And to be honest I was expecting more arguments.
Nothing like watching an hour of arguing on xmas day

Haha. You don't need to switch the TV on for that mate. Should have been at my house on Christmas Day with the grandkids and all that racket! :crying:

I just don't get TV soaps.....they're all utter dross from the bits I've seen.
