Is Keto safe in pregnancy

Hey guys sorry if this is the wrong section but thought it's kind of general / diet specific.

Is palumbo keto or any keto diet safe while pregnant?

Anyone have any info or experience.

Cheers guys

Is a diet that hugely restricts one of the major food groups a safe diet during one of the most important developmental cycles a foetus/baby will ever go through?

No, it is not a safe or recommended state to be in. Moderate carbs intake is better.

Quick google brings up this, I've not read it but you might be interested.

    Thanks Phil

I did think that but, then wasn't too sure as we can do it so why would it have such a major effect on a baby in belly?

We still take in small amounts of carbs from veg, whey, peanut butter etc.

Was curious to know what actual effect it has on a baby.

You're eating for two now. Why would you want to be on a restrictive diet? Or are you looking to do keto but on a calorie surplus?

If you were my lady I would want you getting a little podgey to give the baba the best growing opportunties in the womb. All from good food of course.

Generally people go into ketosis below around 100g of carbs. Ketosis is simply a side effect of a low carb intake. It is not something which you need to strive for. Nothing magical happens once you are in a ketogenic state.

Oh I know about keto diet by being on here and reading up. Not me pal the Mrs done it before And wondered if she could do it again.

Read on is to keep the weight down as she has a really serious condition that if she puts on to much weight the baby is delivered 8 weeks premature.

That's why I wondered if it's ok to do as she doesn't mind it and has excellent results

No! Unless you are faced with gestational diabetes then eat healthy and what you want within reason.

    Thanks for replies guys.

    Much appreciated.

I'd say 150 to 200g carbs is enough anyway to be honest.
