Is there a cut of meat that tastes like steak but is cheaper?

As per the thread title...

1. Is there a cut of meat that tastes like rump steak but is cheaper?

2. Where's the cheapest place to buy it?

Yes, it's call a bone in seven chuck roast or blade chuck
It actually has part of a rib eye but you have to know what you are looking for when examining the meat.

How do you put a picture on here and I'll send you what to look for in the meat?

The first cut of the blade chuck is the one that comes off the beef carcass literally the thickness of a knife blade from the rib, and has within it a large section that is a continuation of the tender rib-eye muscle. Rib eye steaks sell for a premium, and if you know which blade chuck to look for you can pick out a first cut balde chuck, cut out of the rib eye, and get a couple of tender 1-inc thick steaks from a nice thick 2-ince blade chuck roast at a bargain price.

You may have to ask for it since there is only one first cut blade chuck per chuck, but if it's a little known secret in the UK then you may be able to find without having to ask for it.

Number 2 is where you will have the prime rib.
There is an oval piece of grizzle at the left end of #2 that will tell you if you have the prime rib cut or not. You can see it in the whole blade chuck before it is cut. It is left of the white larger oval shape (which is fat)

Braising steak to make your own stew. Instead of using super markets use markets and shop about and haggle a bit.

Theres a local butcher that goes to our gym and he does everyone REALLY good deals to any one from the gym.

Check your yellow pages and contact a local wholesaler. You won't have any problems getting some from them. Just make sure they are reputable and the meat is/was well hung and butchered.

You wonder if an online meat store would work? Next day delivery in ice box obviously! :-)

Rekon it would be to expensive compared to your local butcher.

Use toi be a whole sale frozen and fresh food business and the regulations is stoopid. The food would have to be stored at -18c for frozen and 1c for fresh during transport. Need to give a print out of van temp at each drop off for health reasons etc.

Us eto cost us £23k extra to convert a sprinter to a freezer van

salmon steak? thats gonna taste nothing like actual rump steak, neither is tinned beef in gravey.
Braising steak doesn't taste like rump either to me.

I have checked the online stuff, nothing as cheap as Costco so far for rump steak

might see if the local butcher will beat costco's price.

best to try and get the fresh steaks that are going out of date that day, ie eat them that day or freeze them, sainsburys (i think) cut the price right down at about 5.00pm and the girlfriend got £35.00 of steak for £2.50 (5 packs of steak at 50p per pack) i think alot of people realise what they do though as thats only the second time we have managed to get a decent amount.
