I've got the gout!

Looks likely I've got gout in my big toe.  Going back to the doctors tomorrow to get blood tests, but the doctor thought it certainly looks like gout.

I don't normally drink anything, but being away on holidays for two weeks, I had some beer everyday, loads of meat and desserts.  Then last weekend I had a birthday party for my daughter and had shedloads of beer and crap to eat.  So this is quite possibly what has triggered it.

I'm sure I've had attacks before but because I play rugby I've just put it down to someone standing on my toe in a game or anything.

Yesterday and this morning the pain was pretty bad, but not intolerable.  Still bad enough to put me in a bad mood though.  It's clearing up now.

Who else has gout, do you actively manage it and is it bad enough to affect your training/social activities?

It can be excrutiating painful!  I had something flare up in the ball of my foot, the hospital said it was gout but I blamed it on the new clutch in my car, like clutch-foot lol.

Anyway apparently fresh cherries are supposed to be good for gout.

I've seen that mentioned, I need to look and see what (if any) explanations go along with it.  I've also seen a fairly recent study that looked at the benefits from vitamin C, so maybe it is foods high in vitamin C could be beneficial.

I'm naturally sceptical of any claims regarding vitamins, but at least here they aren't necessarily saying to cram loads of vitamins down your throat.

soak your foot in hot water with cumfry leaves mate, my dad had gout in both feet and his legs.
this worked for him eleviating the pain somewhat.

Probably about 3 - 4 times a year. It was worse when I wasn't looking after my weight.

I'm sure the OP's is nowhere near as bad mate - not trying to frighten him - he's prolly had a look for himself on tinterweb already.

I just didn't know what gouty joints looked like so thought I'd share them.

Hopefully you get it sorted mate, one of my good mates has got it and the doctor told him to stop drinking and taking narcotics or his feet will fall off.

Is it just red meat you cut down on, or have you also cut down on poultry as well?  I don't really tend to eat a lot of red meat, maybe once a week, but do eat chicken probably 2 or 3 times.

Nothing yet, just had blood taken today so waiting to see what they find.  Not sure whether I'll get put on somethign or they will monitor for frequency of attack first?

I've definately had it a few times before but have assumed it is rugby related aches and pains.

It's definately going to put a greater focus on my attempts to lose weight than build muscle in the short term anyway.
