James Cracknell - Race Across America

On Discovery now and looks like it could be pretty good. Back on +1 at 10pm

TBH I just thought he was a complete dick when he was doing the South pole race with the other two (cant remeber their names).

Has he made a full recovery then?

Oddly enough I only found out about his accident a few days ago and was shocked. Must have missed the news the week!

    Cool thanks mate.

Cu3ed - he raced to the pole and atlantic with Ben Fogle. Not sure of the other guy.

JC is what one would say obsessive and intense - he once fainted on the C2 erg but even though unconscious with the coach Jurgen Groebler stopping him from falling off his legs were still moving for about 4-5 strokes!

the other guy wasnt famous, he was a doc called ed i think. i think cracknell is very competitive and intense when he does this kind of thing and tbh being that intense and self centered is prob necessary

I got the impression on the North Pole race he done that he was frustrated because the other guys couldn't keep up with him. I think he's what you call intense and driven.

He is intense and driven but in the north pole situation - Fogle was the one who lasted the best - he has for whatever reason incredible reserves and mental strength.

Fogle also physically handled it the best, Cracknell started to fall apart from trying to push so hard from teh start, it was him that couldnt keep up in the end and slowed them down alot.

I dont understand why you would criticise someone who took part and completed something as enduring as that? surely anyone that does these kinds of things has earned some respect.

Im not having a go at you either , just wondering!

Respect yes, but the way he talked to the two others showed him up to be an arse when they talked for weeks about how to tackle the race, take a steady pace, the couple of guys trianing them where talking the same thing, then literally at the start line he turns to them and says..right..I wanna go for it at a fast pace and go for longer to get a lead...you could see the other wernt happy with that but he kept insisting...then he nearly gets pulled out of it 2/3s of the way thru ( if the team didnt finish it that meant the forfit the race) as his feet where falling apart, and nearly developing nomina (sorry poor sp) and slowing the other 2 right down.

In terms of endurence Fogle outclassed him in terms of mental strength and physically, so did the 3rd guy who was a Dr, who if I remember came late into the training as well.

The guy is a legend.  It's a shame what happened.  I think it was the wing mirror of a passing truck that fractured his skull.  He is apparently alright but not the same person he was.

Makes sense as the cars following him were a cover for him by sitting behind him all the time, at the accident it was the only stretch where the cars were not allowed go below a minimum speed so he had to go himself.
