Wahey! Happy for you mate. Just beware with adding 'bonus' sessions though and the extra fatigue that will bring!


I say 'bonus' but session was needed as had to get those reps back and confidence on it. Plenty of time before deads next week so will be rested. Cheers mate

Squat - Plan to depth and graduially increase weight

When starting to descent for the 60 knee 'went' and caved inward sharply and knee went numb instantly. Couldn't put weight on it for a while, Walked/shook it off and tried rep again but could not descent as knee giving out. Rolled the area and stretched and attempted BW squats but pain when in the hole. 1st vid shows area that went and initial pain and 2nd vid is pain when in hole - I point/tap to pain areas. Dave suspects ive tweaked LCL due to depth work which makes sense. Currently knee feels heavy so taking extra care as hurts when walk down stairs or if put weight on it standing up at times. Dosed on ibuprofen and wrapping, icing, strapping it as much as poss and will rest over weekend apart from a couple of gentle walks. hopefully only minor tweak and will not affect deads on Monday so need to give it every opportunity to rest up next couple days. 
Clearly for comp will be a bar or low weight squat and then concentrate on bench/deads if knee holds up for deads.

That's better! Could of squeezed out an extra rep on dead bench but didn't want to blow my energy before slingshot as plan called for 10 reps on dead and 8 per set on slingshot. Next week im confident of 100 dead bench for 10 - will be tough but I have it. Session was amazing and hitting reps/loads of energy for it all. 
 
Lots of rest and food now.

Not sounding too clever, there is a tendon attachment where you are rubbing too

Oh no. An injury after all your hard graft. How long until comp?

I love the mindset though,
' I'll just do a low weight squat and bang out the deads and bench'.
Most of us would be too vain and can the whole thing. You have got it nailed. It's great experience so why waste the chance to perform with what you can do.

**** news about the squat injury mate, not what you need running up to a comp. Hopefully it'll mend quickly enough to get some weight back on the bar.
 
I echo what billy says though, great mindset and still good experience to be had with the comp.

Not clever nope but giving it every chance to heal up so can at least deadlift.

17th March so matter of weeks.
 
Mate no chance ill bail on comp if can still lift something. It will be a great experience and im confident of a good bench PB and if knee behaves itself a good deadlift. Squats will come next time.

Its not ideal at all mate but im not dwelling on it - sh*t happens so working around it and giving every chance to heal up. I wont push it for weight on bar - main thing is being able to deadlift as potentially got a good lift there. Squat will have to wait for now. 
 
I cant wait mate - absolutely chomping at the bit to get on stage and compete

Apologies for lack of updates on this and your journals - very manic at moment with home/work so will get around soon as I can.
 
Whole weekend was a write off as sickness bug laid up both the wife and little one so was back/forth between them often, wife especially suffered and had both ends going at same time. Never seen anything like it wife was suffering for a good 24 hours of sickness and still now not 100% So not as rested/fed as wanted but that was unavoidable really as they needed taking care of and that was priority over extra snacks and sleep for me. 
 
Knee feels on the mend - all weekend been alternating between wearing knee sleeve for support and icing it. Kept up rolling/mobility/stretching work also around 45 mins per day. Couple gentle 30 min walks and day by day its feeling better. Not 100% yet and still aches at times but its heading in the right direction and very luckily have not had any swelling come out. Deadlifts moving to later this week just to give knee couple more days rest to it, will sleeve up on bad knee as well when deadlifting for extra support. No leg work this week apart from deads and the mobility/rolling work. Tight back has practically gone now so that's some good news.
 
Should be training with one of the comp refs this sat at his gym (not gym where comp is). It's all calibrated spec plates and bars, competition squat stand/bench so good to sort my starting positions and use that equip. 
 
Heads not affected by this injury - just re-focusing on what I can do next few weeks and gunning for comp day.

That sickness bug sounds awful. Hope they're all recovering now mate.

It feels good but tester will be friday heavy deads so fingers crossed. No rehab last 2 days as i caught sickness bug so been laid up with it

Yep and I caught it as well Monday afternoon. Felt better this afternoon so eating as much I can without overdoing it and hopefully back to work and gym tomorrow.

Haha thats a funny image! Would of been possing myself. Luckily wife was on the loo and being aick into the bath.

Watching it mate - i cant do certain things at moment so working around it and hoping mends well enough for a good deadlift

2 poxy days laid up with sickness bug. Food has kept down well and on 2’d portion of cottage pie now. Gunning for a good bench session tomorrow so need to be well fuelled.
Knee got neglected last couple days - no rolling/mobility/icing. Alternated icing and wrapping this afternoon when felt more human. Back on rolling/mobility tomorrow.

I feel for you mate, I've been out for a few days ill and that was frustrating enough.  With a comp just around the corner, you must be doing your nut.

Sounds like a cap couple of days. Hope the bench session goes ok but don't get too downhearted if it's a poor workout.

If it goes south don't try and force it otherwise you can risk getting ill again and setting back full recovery by pushing too much. Let it slide and go again next time.

Sometimes we are all guilty of forcing the plan and we are inflexible. Listen to your body as it's a great barometer of how things are going.

Hey mate. Sucks about the knee. I suspect it may be related to addressing those depth issues when the knee just wasn't ready for it.
 
Still, with the sickness subsiding at least you have given the knee a good rest!
