Yesterday at funeral (family friend) had to keep tight on the booze as that would be an occasion where I would have a session. Kept to pint and 1/2 and thats the booze for this weekend. The workouts are by far the easy part but its avoiding the urge for a boozy session or food binge thats harder.
Focus of comp is massively helping keep these in check.

Got a cottage pie in oven ready to smash down once cooked and re-watching the dark knight trilogy. Currently sitting here sitting in ‘the hole’ squat position to get as comfortable whith this depth as possible.

The training part is often touted as the easy bit. If you get everything else dialled in its pretty hard to get that so tits up you don't progress, but it's very easy to fvck the rest up.

Well done on resisting the urge to drink heavily. Funerals can go a certain way when you're recounting old stories and celebrating a life.

I've been neglecting this journal. Lots of great work though working through the depth issue with the squats. Recent vids look much better. I would suggest the best angle to video would be at knee height, and that is the level your hip crease needs to go under. It will be much easier to see where you are exactly.

I find training by far the easier. Keeping on top of foam rolling and cutting the drink - that's where the effort comes in for me.

Thanks mate was a wake up call but at least I realised before comp day. I filmed from bench height today so see how they come out.

Mixed bag session today was fired up and couldn't wait to deadlift but lower lumbar region still giving me jip - just tight so not getting full strength/bracer when deadlifting. Think will have to bite the bullet and find money for a sports massage as the foam rolling stretching is only going so far.

So cocked up loading the working set - 180 instead of 185. The 180 moved fine but could feel back pulling - 2nd set with correct weight of 185 felt very slow but video showed moving faster. 5th rep back was just to tight and didn't want to power through and make back worse or poss injure. Not happy missing a rep but if manage to get sports massage this week hoping will help and back on form next week. Will go belted next week to help the bracing as still relatively new to belt so extra practise using that will be good.
 
Squats - feel nice and deep and weight could do all day. Vids of 1st 4 sets for review - would these pass in a comp? Look good to me but ive been wrong before - very wrong!! If depth gets the thumbs up then ill up weight for working sets on Thursday.
 
Left out dead rows due to back and added extra reps to CG pulldown and good hammy blast on ham curls.

2 & 4 for sure I think, 1 & 3 might be ok but I can't get a properly paused look, hopefully someone else's eyes are sharper than mine and can confirm.
 
I wouldn't go heavier until you're 100% dialled in with every lift tbh mate. Drill drill drill.

Im drilling all the time now - even at home im trying to sit in the hole. Want it to become 2nd nature

Yeh some better but def improved. Just need to keep dialling in. What weight/rep range to you want me on squats this week? Plan did call for 150 2 x 5. I think keep 120/130?

Similar to last calorie check of 21/01/19 of 3,936 calories although protein higher now. If I logged every bit of sauce and black coffee's would be slightly diff but sauce was made already (home made beef curry) so guestimated use of coconut milk etc for my portion

Damn I impressed myself today with bench work. No chance last summer would of hit these reps and ground out the rep where needed, very happy with the improvement this plan. I would even say that 2nd set of bench went better then the 1st - last rep was more TNG then paused but other reps im happy with. Floor press again better then I was expecting and reps felt strong throughout. Accessory work good to finish off. As usual arms especially triceps absolutely blown up/pumped.
 
Managed to scrape together money for a sports massage tonight - so will be an hour of torture but hopefully worth it. Most of focus will be on loosening up lower lumbar region and any extra time will be quads.

On fire buddy yes! Sports massage will really help too mate, well worth it at this stage :)
 
Regarding squats...go with 120kg for working weight and see how they feel, we can always ramp up if moving well and nice and deep.

Nice work mate, it's all going in the right direction.  Not sure if this will help but I find front squats helpful for hip mobility.  I can sink down a bit lower so on days when things are tight I'll do a set or 2 (nothing bit or fancy) just to get things moving.  A sets of 3 seem to do the job and don't impact the session.
