Nice work JayBoy. You don't look weak at pull ups to me, most people struggle to get any at all.

Im the same Brett, if I have time off altogether from training, even if it is just a week, I come back weaker, or I at least feel weaker. I prefer a deload or lighter session instead.

Unfortunately with the pressures of life and other stuff you have to get done you cant help but take some time off at times.

Cheers dude. I feel im weak but that's just cos I want to be able to get 10-12 proper reps easy - im on 8 so far so on the right path!

I hate time off but think its beneficial for joints to have a few days off. Muscles recover quick enough but joints etc need the rest. That's just my opinion but never really lost strength through doing it. Longest rest is normally a week unless im on holiday which could be longer

My word my body is hurting from yesterday. Knee aches, back and shoulder tight. Not the best prep for deadlift day...

Deadlift
20 x 12
60 x 10
60 x 6
100 x 6
140 x 4
170 x 2 PB reps at this weight
175 x FAIL. Got it 2 inches off floor for 10 secs but could not get higher
170 x 1
170 x 1
160 x 3

Very happy with this session. All pulls were smooth and not hitching. Was belted for the 170 pulls. After listening to  advice and watching videos (Ox's deadlift vids are a good watch if people need help with form). Stopped the faffing about bar rolling, planted feet, narrowed grip, no slack on bar and got some nice pulls.
Aim is for 175 next week if poss...

Pendley rows
60 x 8
80 x 6
80 x 6
100 x 4
80 x 8
80 x 8
80 x 8

By this point back was done. Just no energy left and form was suffering on the 100 which is why I lowered weight.

All in all a good days training.

Had a lovely pint of Guinness last night - just the 1 but went down like a dream. BUT...woke up with a stinking headache (not hungover!) so wasn't looking forward to training today BUT lovely back doms from yesterday. Been a while since ive had decent back doms...

Bench Press
20 x 10
20 x 10
60 x 6
80 x 4
90 x 2
90 x 1
80 x 3
80 x 2
60 x 10
60 x 8

Strength weren't as high as I would of liked today which is why I went for reps last 2 sets. Need to start loving my pressing (chest and shoulder) like I love my squat & deadlift which will hopefully result in some bigger numbers/reps

Cable Flys
16.25 x 8 x 6 sets

Pullups
BW x 6
BW x 6
BW x 6
BW x 4

50 min sessions today. Need to find a way where I can get some longer sessions in so I can train more. Intensity's good on these short workouts but another 30 mins ciuld help me achieve more and add an extra movement to train.

Tomorrows plan at the moment is to Squat, Deadlift and dips. If have time would also like to rope pull/sled push combo but will see how I go.
Got a feeling deadlifting twice in a week will make me burn. But looking forward to it.

I train about 10am most days, just take my lunch break very early. Just don't have time in the evening to train this year.

May try to negotiate a longer break with work if I come in earlier...

Probably last session until Tuesday next week so wanted to get at least 2 compounds. Body was nice and sore today. I have noticed my knees are more sore/aching nowadays. Top of my knee... I'm putting that down to the heavier movement im doing. Hoping with time that my muscles, joints etc will strengthen enough to stop the ache. If continues over next couple months may look at knee wraps as the weights will only get heavier.

Todays session - Around 90 mins...

Squats
20 x 12
60 x 6
100 x 6
120 x 2
140 x FAIL. Nice slow rep down. 2-3 inches up but could not power up to complete rep
120 x 1
120 x 2
120 x 1
100 x 4

Deadlifts (Back aching at this point)
20 x 10
60 x 6
100 x 4
140 x 4
160 x FAIL Again couple inches off floor but could not complete rep
140 x 2 Straight after failing above
140 x 4
140 x 5

Dips
BW x 10 x 6 seats

Standing Lat Pulldown (Cable machine)
23.75 x 10 x 4 sets

Bodyweight 86.5kg

Walking Lunges - Holding 15kg barbell vertical. Don't know name for this exercise
20m x 4 sets

Good session. Wish strength was better but clearly strength was diminished which was to be expected as 2nd time deaded/squatted this week...

Roll on next week. 2nd attempt at Deadlift PB...

Sounds like you need a few days rest mate... Sounding beat up.
Look at neoprene knee sleeves for squatting... I always use them for squats... Old and achy lol... SBD are pricey but brilliant imo.

Highly recommend SBD. Get them fairly tight too( website has a size guide - one normal sizes and one competition sizes. The comp sizes have a bit of carryover)

Squat 220kg(3) - Bench 200Kg - Deadlift 250kg - Strict Press 130kg - Push Press 140kg

Cheers guys will give these a look over the weekend - will need to work out what size I am. When you wear them is it just for heavy reps or would you wear them for a full squat session for example?
Im pushing hard so guess body will push back!

Cant say body feels well rested after those days off. Diet slacked off as well but it happens. Anyways back to routine now...
Session around 50 mins...

Deadlift
20 x 12
60 x 8
60 x 6
100 x 5
140 x 5
160 x 3
170 x FAIL
170 x FAIL
160 x 2
160 x 1
140 x 6
140 x 5

So frustrating cant hit that 170 every week. Seems to be 1 week I can and 1 week I cant. Perhaps I need to go back to 160/165 and work on those for reps to build strength then attempt 170 after. Any suggestions?

Bent over row
60 x 6
60 x 6
80 x 6
80 x 6
100 x 4

Frustrated with deadlift this session. Just want to push on more but that 170 is toying with me. Just need to keep grafting and hopefully will get there. Think I'm at that stage now where weight creeps up very slowly over time. Guess will make it more satisfying next time I hit it or better that over the coming months.

Mate if you're tripling 160 you can easily do 170...its because you're doing a hard triple then going for a max...quit trying to hit 170 and work on your reps...what program are you following for deads currently? I think you need to focus in a tad more in a better % rep range.

Thats what i was thinking tbh - work on reps. Im not on any programme - have never used one before. Any you would recommend? Agree on the rep range - again its what i was thinking. Having someone pick up on it and comment similar does help as reinforces my thoughts.

Can you deadlift twice weekly? Is so try...

Session 1

5x5...start at 70% and add 2.5kg a week. When you eventually fail a week...say you get to 150kg and get 5,5,5,5,4 the following week stay at 150kg and go 4x4...continue adding 2.5kg a week again until you get a fail again and then drop to 3x3 and so on until a new max.

Session 2

These sessions are set at 80% of your 1rm...it never changes..8 sets of 2. To begin wit this may be tough but the goal in this session is to get the bar moving faster and faster with perfect form..eventually of course it is no longer 80% of your max as your max has increased.

I have used this multiple times for all lifts and it works very very well. Here is a link to the article I wrote about it...

https://proteindynamix.com/academy/training/power-up-with-our-top-tips-on-powerlifting/

Any questions give me a shout..not forgot that vid either mate...will get on it this week.

Much appreciated thanks. I have been looking at different 5x5 programmes so think this could work well. Hopefully will help my squat and bench as well. Looking forward to trying this out.
