Just Wondering...

Just wondering why the "Question on ground Oats" thread has been locked and moved. Can't see any reason.

May be because a company which some board sponsors possibly source from was mentioned, which would deter customers from purchasing that product from the board sponsors, as the company mentioned are much cheaper?

Well MT is here for it's members so if it's something that benefits it's members, which that thread was, it should be left well alone.

I agree, I wasn't defending the decision, I assumed this was why hence the question mark at the end of my prev post

And yet you still post here even though you have issues with our modding and rules.

You used to be such a good member, but the last few months you seem to be so negative!  It concerns me that if a great member, like yourself, has such a dim view about MT then we're doing something wrong.  If you could email me your feedback, I'd be extremely grateful, this way I can address any issues appropriately.

Remember, most mods are nothing to do with MT as a business, so any issues are aimed at Jason and me.

BulkWhey - I really do not know.  If there was no good reason, I'll move it back.

I'm sorry that you guys feel that I'm only interested in financial gain.  (if you think about it though, you couldn't be further from the truth - I have just spent the last few months working 90% of my time on the Grand Prix Expo for free, purely for my passion to move fitness on in the UK.  Sorry for being unprofessional and self-righteous, but I'm sure after going theough what I went through you can understand why bman's comments pisses me off! - I don't want any thanks or any credit - all I ask is that people do not accuse me of things like that - or is that too much to ask?!)

Hi James, I started this thread as I couldn't understand why the original thread was cancelled midflight when there was no slander, self promotion etc.
Re the paragraph bman quoted...I wasn't aware of this. If this is your policy then it's entirely yours to make as MT is yours.  I'll still be coming back to MT time and again!

I used to post about a certain mill in Cheshire who produce oat flour among other things, but was asked some months ago by a mod to stop posting on the subject.

A couple of years ago when I first posted about cheap oat flour, my posts on this subject were as-often-as-not deleted, always without explanation; so the last time it happened I was just grateful for the courtesy of the message I got from the mod explaining why it was deleted, and while disappointed I agreed to the request.

I have nothing against mods for not PMing me as I know it's a pain and I don't hold it against admin as they have a business to run.  That said, moderators have to understand that it will piss off member if they just delete helpful, money-saving, well meaning posts; and members have to accept the understandable relationship between the sponsors and the site.

So can the mod who locked the post comment on why he did so.

I assume he is accountable to someone.

I guess my issue is things change the board isn't anything like it use to be, hence those original members don't post on here these days.

I assume bar yourselves I am one of the oldest serving members I'd be interested to hear why those at that time have left.
I guess people vote with their feet.Or fingers in this case.

I just see that far too many posts and threads are locked or deleted these days. Most if you disagree with a mods opinion.

I'm not going to get involved in this other than to say that in my time here I have immensely enjoyed MT, and it's numerous personalities.  It IS a great site and it is also the only BB website I frequent (as I don't feel the need to go elsewhere).

I don't think that James needs a character reference from anyone on here to be honest, and I don't think the site is purely about financial gain.  Also, I would hazard a guess that the vast majority of the members like it here, or they simply wouldn't be here!

I can't comment on past board members or events, as I only joined 2 years ago myself.

The mods' also have a thankless task in my opinion and are required to make judgement calls for the benefit of the site and it's many users.  Some they get right, but there are obviously cases where they may get them wrong also.  We can't hang them out to dry on the odd occasion that they may make a wrong call.

EDIT
This does not infer that this particular decision is a wrong call, as I don't know the in's and out's of the decision to remove the aforementioned thread.

Barry, are you serious?  Bman was being a dick!  There's no paragraph - he's invented it to have a sarcastic dig at me!  You didn't seriously think we'd have something like that in our rules did you?!!!

LikeI said, I DO NOT KNOW why your topic was moved.  I will try to find out: please give me reasonable time (ie a few working days)

Or it could be that negative people like yourself make the place less pleasent.  Look at how you have made Barry's fair point into a major issue? FFS, he even believed your sarcasm. You have such a negative image of MT that nothing I can say will change your mind.

Question: if I tell youthat you are flat wrong in your claim about MT would you take my word for it?  A simple yes or no.

Posts are NOT deleted / locked unless there is very good reason; save every occassional times and these times I have over-ridden the mod and moved it back.

Yes, we have very strict rule in the supps forum but that's for good reason.

My apologies! I feel a a bit of a plonker now!
I think it was also reading this "I used to post about a certain mill in Cheshire who produce oat flour among other things, but was asked some months ago by a mod to stop posting on the subject." from Puzzle that I thought it must be there. That and I wasn't expecting bman or anyone else to make up ficticous unnecessary quotes in this thread. To be honest I just started this thread as I was "just wondering" why it was locked/moved. You don't really have to bother chasing up why it was locked/moved James. It's not hugely important.

I guess we can see the simple fact that this thread isn't removed shows how impartial MT is!

Barry

Thanks, Barry.  Apparently Guv has PMed you and told you his reasons for moving it.  And, like you say, it's because MT is impartial that it was moved.

Hi James,

With all respect, neither you nor your forum are impartial. It baffles me why you have a problem with this reality being highlighted?

There is nothing wrong with a lack of impartiality, it's your board after all, but might I ask that you do not dupe folks into believing you are impartial, given the inherant bias found here?

I find it odd that you continually posit a supposed impartiality in the manner you do?

You censor any and all raw material supplier discussion when it (and ONLY when it) pertains to those suppliers that are a) doing business with your board sponsors, and/or b) also have open, the option for individuals to buy in small bulk thru agents.

ie: your prohibition of certain content, is predicated on protecting your vested, revenue interests.

As said, it's your policy, which is fine, but I feel you could be somewhat more clear than you currently are.

As things currently stand, you have a forum where members are not only prohibited from discussing whey suppliers, but they are also prohibitied from discussing suppliers for other ingredients (Oats etc) both on account that to do so would compromise several of the companies whom advertise here ie: its about the revenue for you and MT.

Of course, if I have this wrong, please let the members know that they can now freely dicuss whey manufacture like grown ups.
